Maintenance Technician - HVAC
Position Purpose and Summary
The Maintenance Technician – HVAC role will blend HVAC and controls knowledge to tackle the many unique HVAC systems across the campus. You will be responsible for commissioning new systems, diagnosing and repair of environmental control systems, and utilizing your knowledge of electronics, direct digital controls, and mechanical techniques to maintain and replace our assets to the industry standards.
Key Areas of Accountability
- Will represent Facility Services by serving our clients: the Students, Staff, and Faculty, ensuring each concern is tackled with care and to the best of your ability. Respond to corrective maintenance work orders and complete them promptly
- Complete preventative maintenance orders and filter changes to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Maintain and monitor the Building Automation System and address problems and alarms as they arise, connecting new assets as the need arises.
- Responsible to ensure building controls run at optimum efficiency and temperature
- Continually enforces safety to the highest standard and maintains strict confidentiality and accountability to departmental standards.
- Performs basic inspections on all HVAC assets and logs results.
- Check, repair, and/or replace valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes, and other functional components of the system
- Estimate time and material costs on HVAC projects
- Tasked with increasing sustainability through energy consumption in HVAC by monitoring and improving consumption, reducing carbon, and increasing sustainability.
- Apply all applicable provincial and related local safety requirements to all assigned work
- Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments
- Provide support to other disciplines in maintenance as required.
- Carry on-call phone after hours on a rotational basis
- Be willing to work on call for snow removal

- Able to read and interpret technical documents including HVAC and process controls schematics.
- Demonstrated skill in the operation of Industrial or Building automation control systems
- Boom lift, scissor lift, and fall arrest ticket considered an asset
- Able to make independent decisions and use sound judgment in applying TWU policies, rules, and regulations
- Able to lift to 30 lbs. regularly and climb ladders while working and moving.
- Able to stand most of the day
- Must have a valid driver’s license

Education: High school diploma or equivalency, a valid HVAC and R ticket.
Experience: 3 – 5 years’ experience as a technician in HVAC repair troubleshooting, installation, and controls – considered an asset but would consider a recent grad
Duties and responsibilities that do not constitute a major change may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the supervisor's discretion, either orally or in writing.
