About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Building Systems Technician to join our dynamic Facilities Operations & Programs team.

The Facilities team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by overseeing and directing infrastructure performance and services, and providing oversight and integration of planning initiatives that support departmental performance and policies.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the buildings, physical plant, grounds and building equipment are adhering to internal and external regulations and legislative requirements. You will follow operating procedures and train direct reports and contracted providers, while ensuring that the infrastructures are maintained and operated in a cost-effective manner while meeting quality standards.

Additionally, you will be responsible for providing supervisory support in various aspects related to infrastructure management and operations, including but not limited to planning services, change control, validations, preventative maintenance, demand maintenance and repairs; and review documentation of all activities performed by the department, generating key performance indicators and other assorted duties as assigned.

You will develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, stakeholders, landlords, and service providers, providing leadership that facilitates achievement of goals and represents the department favourably.

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your experience and knowledge of legislative requirements, you will ensure all interior and exterior physical plant, infrastructure equipment, collections, manufacturing and donor testing equipment, electrical plumbing, health, ventilation, and air condition preventative and emergency maintenance requirements are met.
  • Leveraging your excellent supervisory skills, you will oversee all staff activities and ensure staff is adequately trained to perform jobs safely, efficiently, and effectively, identifying training needs and providing material and instruction as needed.
  • Utilizing your superior interpersonal and communication skills you will facilitate positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focusing on your ability to interpret business needs, you will assist in the development and management of annual operating and capital budgets and in the development of long-term capital replacement budgets.
  • Leveraging your excellent organizational and prioritization skills, you will establish priorities, delegate assignments, and ensure that workloads are assigned in a manner that is fair, equitable and in accordance with operational requirements.
  • You will comply with applicable Collective Agreements, Terms & Conditions of Employment and Human Resources Policies and Procedures as they apply to the supervision of employees.

Desired Education And Skills

  • Post-secondary education from a recognized institute with preference given to Certified Power Engineer Class 4, BOMA, IFMA certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in facility maintenance management of medium to large sized commercial or institutional buildings housing the latest technology including computerized environmental control systems.
  • Previous team lead, oversight of contractors or supervisory experience a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of, but not limited to, direct digital controllers, computerized maintenance management system, refrigeration, air handling units, compressed air, fire alarm systems, sprinkler, card access system, security, boilers, hot water heater, humidifiers, water treatment and emergency generators. Assembly, repair, or maintenance of furniture, castors, door handles, ceiling tiles, light fixtures, and other minor building repairs such as patching and painting, etc.
  • Previous experience working within an ISO 9000 or GMP environment, preferably within a highly regulated environment, is an asset.
  • Experience in personal computers with preference given to a Windows 365 operating system using SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

What You Can Expect

  • This role will work in at 4750 Oak St, Vancouver.
  • Regular shift is Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 15:00. After hours on-call shifts (15:00 to 07:00 and weekends) rotates bi-weekly. Rest days: Saturday and Sunday.
  • Travel requirements - maybe required to visit other locations as needed.
  • Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).

This position must meet the Trustworthiness and Reliability Verification requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and is subject to criminal records and employment verification checks.
