Our team provides trauma-informed, highly-specialized assessment, treatment, and targeted intervention services for children and youth with complex combinations of special needs, including developmental disabilities, autism and severe behavioural, emotional and mental health challenges.

About the job

As part of the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) team, you will work independently within the RPN scope of practice, as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, in the CPRI Mental Health and Developmental Delay Units.

This role involves providing nursing care to children and youth (from birth to 18 years) who are in stable health care conditions or in conditions with predictable outcomes. You can expect the typical day to include activities such as:

  • Working closely with a multi-disciplinary team to provide nursing care for children and youth with complex medical and developmental needs, focusing on neurodevelopmental pediatrics, mental health, special needs, and developmental disabilities.
  • Documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes clearly and accurately.
  • Communicating and collaborating actively with the residence team, families, and community health providers to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Supporting and taking part in research and education initiatives
  • Practising according to the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and ministry guidelines.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • You must be registered in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario prior to a confirmed offer
  • You will be required to provide a copy of your medical administration certificate if you graduated from the PN program prior to year 2005

Nursing Knowledge and Experience

You have knowledge of:

  • evidence-based practices, and experience in providing pediatric nursing care within the RPN scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • professional, community and facility resources to assist in the care and treatment of the child and youth, and provide support to their families
  • relevant legislation (Child and Family Services Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act) and professional nursing standards/guidelines to develop treatment plans for clients

Problem Solving and Organizational Skills

You can:

  • plan and implement client care
  • evaluate clients' developmental and health status within established timelines
  • identify patients with complex needs and report to MD/RN

Hours of Work

  • This posting includes one permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week, and one temporary, irregular/on-call working 0-40 hours per week.
  • You may be required to perform shift work, including mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends and/or statutory holidays.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You can:

  • work effectively with staff and patients
  • explain health care treatments
  • write and communicate clearly when documenting and discussing client needs
  • provide health education, and promote and support treatment goals
  • work collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team
