Job description
In this position, you’ll help protect the health and safety of every worker by supporting both Industrial Hygiene and Radiation Protection programs. You’ll take part in monitoring and prevention activities, develop safety initiatives, and mentor others. Responsibilities include:
Industrial Hygiene:
- Work closely with the site Industrial Hygienist, participate in developing and deploying the Industrial Hygiene Program and tools such as Air Sampling Campaigns, Hearing Conservation Program, and the Respiratory Protection Program, etc.
- Perform industrial hygiene risk assessments (quantitative/qualitative)
- Participate in the development of sampling strategies and annual planning for exposure monitoring
- Conduct sampling campaigns including field planning and material preparation, report preparation, and presentation of results
- Participate in training related to Industrial Hygiene
Radiation Protection:
- Carry out all measurements prescribed in procedures and work instructions
- Record data collected as prescribed and input into appropriate records and databases ensuring the integrity/validity of information
- Carry out point and personnel monitoring and develop required records
- Perform and coordinate calibration and maintenance of measuring devices and systems
- Train/mentor all employees as required
- Liaise with supervisors and workers in all departments to ensure that actions in response to operational conditions are carried out as required
- Provide assistance and advice to employees on radiation and radiation protection related matters
- Establish and maintain procedures, work instructions and forms
- Teach Advanced Radiation Protection courses and prepare/attend safety huddles
- Draft internal/ regulatory reports
- Plan daily schedules to accomplish the prescribed monitoring program
- Respond to situations where it may be necessary to investigate, eliminate and/or control unacceptable radiation exposure situations to personnel or damage to the environment
Work Location & Schedule:
- McClean Lake/Saskatoon Corporate Office
- 14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
- Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
- Able to wear passive, powered, and self-contained respiratory protective equipment, pass the associated fit tests

Ideal qualifications
Skills and Qualifications for the position include:
- Certification or active pursuit of the following certification is required:
o Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician
o Radiation Safety Officer
- Significant experience, certification and/or active pursuit of technical knowledge in Industrial Hygiene and Radiation Protection
- Demonstrated ability to teach and speak publicly to workers and leaders
- Excellent computer skills in spreadsheets, data management systems
- Technical reading and writing skills are required
- Proficiency using SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Office
- Leadership Training and ability to supervise technical staff
- Familiarity with the operation of agencies such as CNSC, Sask Labour, etc.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Wear and work in personal protective equipment
- Able to work independently and, where necessary, take charge of situations
- Open, honest and transparent communications
- Participate in activities and meetings etc. in a positive and engaged manner
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters
- Receive feedback and strive for continuous improvement and understanding
This position is subject to pre-employment checks including education and criminal record verification.
Drug and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all safety sensitive positions at Orano Canada.
