Location: Geaganano Residence – 237 Ontario Street, Kingston (primary), Hotel Dieu Hospital site
DESCRIPTION:
To provide compassionate and culturally sensitive services to help to ease the stress of members of First Nations communities receiving treatment in an urban setting far from their homes. To provide a clean, safe and supportive environment to guests of Geaganano Residence. To ensure that the hygiene and safety of Geaganano Residence is maintained to Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston Health Sciences Centre standards. Cree speaking staff who qualify may also provide language and cultural interpretation services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities:
-
Be familiar with and follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures pertaining to the operations of Geaganano Residence e.g. House Rules, WHMIS, Fire Safety, Safe Reporting;
-
Review logbook, maintenance log and personal file daily;
-
Maintain daily logbook, complete daily activity sheets, prepare nutrition, linen and supply orders;
-
Review and complete hospital training programs on-line via the computer;
-
Report guest, facility and safety concerns promptly to appropriate IPS staff;
-
Telephone reception and message taking, recording and delivering;
-
Escort charter passengers to the airport as required;
-
Other duties as assigned by the Geaganano Supervisor.
Guest Care:
-
Welcome guests arriving by charter, ground travel or air ambulance.
-
Provide suitable accommodation and meal services to eligible guests;
-
Assist and provide an orientation to guests of Geaganano and other accommodations;
-
Identify and report guest needs including diet, meals, medications, physical limitations and psychosocial issues to appropriate IPS staff;
-
Provide and exchange information to and from guests clearly and effectively;
-
Remind Geaganano guests of appointment times and to follow any pre-appointment preparations. Ensure that guests are ready and on time for appointments;
-
Refer guest to Cree speaking staff as requested and required.
Housekeeping:
-
Responsible for following safe working conditions and practices while performing housekeeping duties including:
-
Daily cleaning of bathrooms, living room, sitting room and kitchen;
-
Bed making and room cleaning as required;
-
Washing of floors, walls and windows as required;
-
Dusting and polishing of furniture;
-
Garbage and recycling removal;
-
Other duties as assigned by the Geaganano Supervisor.
Security:
-
Responsible for following safe working conditions and practices when ensuring that guests, staff and Geaganano Residence are secure including:
-
Supervision of guests and maintaining order;
-
Applying the house and departmental rules fairly and equitably to all guests;
-
Following departmental and hospital security policies and procedures and reporting breaches immediately to appropriate staff.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
-
College level or equivalent experience in a related field.
-
Experience in a care giving setting in housekeeping and/or security.
-
Knowledge and/or work experience in a cross-cultural environment.
-
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job including shift work.
-
Able to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team.
-
Excellent communication skills.
-
Basic level computer skills.
-
Proven ability to attend work regularly.
-
Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
