territories of the Tahltan, Kaska and Tlingit First Nations and we honour

Lower Post is home to the Kaska First Nation and you will have the privilege
to learn about Kaska culture and traditions. There are many places to explore
and experience adventures within Kaska Territory. Most residents go fishing,
hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, hunting, quadding,
boating, skiing, mountain biking and much more. Lower Post is located
approximately 24 KM (20 min. drive) south of Watson Lake, Yukon, and offers a
family-oriented lifestyle with affordable living and is the perfect place for
the outdoor enthusiast. Denetia School is a Grade K-7 school with small class
sizes. This is a professional growth opportunity for you to lead and support
innovative learning experiences for students. We encourage staff to take

This is a unique opportunity to expand your administrative leadership capacity
by gaining district-level administrative experience while working in a school
with small class sizes. Based on the capacity of the candidate, there is
potential to be assigned district-level administrative responsibilities to
work with and support the senior leadership team.
We are seeking a teaching school administrator with a student-centred approach
to leadership, strong communication and liaison skills, and a commitment to
excellence in education to support school and student growth. We welcome
educators who have:
- Demonstrated understanding and respect for Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being and Doing;
- Successful experience with the integration of Indigenous Language and Culture;
- Commitment to, and progress toward, Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action related to education;
- Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships with learners, parents, staff, and the community;
- A high energy level with personal attributes that include: integrity, flexibility, and dedication;
- Previous administrative experience is desirable;
- Experience and knowledge of the B.C. K to 12 curriculum;
- Thorough understanding of effective assessment and evaluation practices;
- Knowledge and experience in inclusive education and mental health in schools;
- A fundamental belief that all learners can achieve at a high level;
- Demonstrated effective leadership during critical incidents and other stressful conditions;
- Have knowledge of and experience with training, delivery and leading initiatives pertaining to Trauma Informed Practice in support of students;
- The knowledge and ability to guide staff and students with differentiated learning strategies;
- The necessity to be confidential when dealing with sensitive issues pertaining to students and staff;
- It is desired that the teaching Principal candidate possess a graduate degree in Education, with a focus on educational leadership; curriculum and instruction; or other relevant area; and eligibility for membership in the BC Ministry of Education's Teacher Regulation Branch. Candidates without a graduate degree will be considered provided they are willing to obtain a graduate degree.
School District No 87 offers a relocation allowance, annual personal travel
allowance for the employee and dependents living with them, a substantial
professional development package and an excellent benefits package (100%
medical, extended health, dental and group health insurance). Salary range for
this position is $140,315 to $155,905. We also provide modern accommodation at
a reasonable rate.
