About the role
The Accounting Manager will oversee financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide critical insights into cost efficiency and financial performance. The role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership capabilities and the technical knowledge to handle complex costing methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
Accounting Operations:

Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.

Perform accounting month-end and year-end closing process.
-
Prepares financial statements and ensures accurate and timely reporting of all related financial results to appropriate parties.

Produce timely and relevant reports and analysis to help management make well-informed decisions.
-
Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
-
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
-
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
-
Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to optimize efficiency and compliance.
Cost Accounting:
-
Analyze production costs, inventory valuations, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
-
Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
-
Prepare cost reports, variance analyses, and margin analyses to inform decision-making.
-
Maintain standard costing systems and update as necessary to reflect market or production changes.
-
Prepares and reviews product standard cost and intercompany pricing as requested.
-
Calculate margins by products and by customers.
-
Analyze sales and inventory turnover.
-
Assist with calculating operations efficiency, overtime control and raw material usage variance.
-
Prepare inventory and production variance analysis.
-
Prepare (monthly, quarterly, and annual) cost forecasts.
-
Review and approve master data changes such as BOM and recipe changes; Roll up changes into SAGE as required.
Budgeting and Forecasting:

Assist in developing annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
-
Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.
-
Provide departmental operation and travel expense comparison for budget control. Recommend corrective actions as needed.
Leadership and Team Management:

Manage and mentor accounting team members, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
-
Provide input into department’s goal setting process.
-
Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to streamline financial processes.
-
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Audit and Compliance:
-
Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory and company requirements.
-
Maintain accurate records to support tax filings and other statutory obligations.
-
Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
-
Relevant certification (i.e. CPA, CMA) preferred.
-
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in cost accounting or financial analysis.

Proven track record of managing accounting teams.
-
In-depth understanding of Canadian GAAP rules and regulations.
-
Awareness of business trends.
-
Hands-on experience with accounting software.
-
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
-
Proficiency in ERP systems (i.e. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, SAGE) and advanced Excel skills.

Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, manufacturing processes, and inventory control.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Bilingual in French and English.
