Communications Coordinator - Existing position - Maternity Leave backfill

Band: 2 $53,188.34 - $66,485.42
**Compensation is aligned with internal equity and market benchmarks. In limited circumstances, offers above the posted range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications or highly specialized expertise**

This role, as with all positions at ITK is 100% in-office,requires being in the office full-timeat 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, ON.

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications Coordinator supports Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s mandate by delivering day-to-day communications activities, content development, and event support.

This is a dynamic role that combines writing, media support, social media management, and event coordination. The Coordinator works closely with colleagues across ITK to produce clear, engaging, and culturally grounded communications that highlight ITK’s priorities, initiatives, and advocacy work on behalf of Inuit.

The successful candidate will be an adaptable, hands-on communicator with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support Communications Plans

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of strategies that advance ITK priorities and advocacy.

Content Development

  • Draft and edit news releases, media lines, social media, website content, newsletters, and reports, ensuring cultural integrity and accessibility.

Media & Issues Support

  • Monitor coverage, prepare summaries, draft responses, and assist with interviews and events.

Event Coordination

  • Provide communications and logistical support for announcements, workshops, and national events.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt style for different audiences and platforms.
  • Understanding of Inuit Nunangat, Inuit history, and Inuit political structures
  • Familiarity with media relations, digital platforms, and event planning.
  • Basic design, photography, or multimedia production skills considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, WordPress, and social media platforms.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
  • Previous work with an Inuit or Indigenous organization is an asset.
  • Experience supporting events and campaigns is an asset.

EDUCATION

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Indigenous Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Must be committed to ITK’s mandate and sensitive to Inuit culture and perspectives.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

  • Beneficiaries under a Land Claims Agreement are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given priority in hiring.
