Position Summary:
The Bilingual Fund Development & Community Engagement Coordinator will play a vital role in expanding Hospice Care Ottawa’s presence and impact within the Francophone community and across the region. This role focuses on creating new partnerships, strengthening existing relationships, and securing financial support through sponsorships, events, grants, and major gifts. As a skilled communicator and relationship-builder, the Coordinator will represent Hospice Care Ottawa in the community, engaging organizations, service clubs, and businesses through presentations and outreach. The Coordinator will also contribute to fundraising communications, donor stewardship, and event execution, with the goal of increasing revenue, raising awareness, and inspiring long-term support for Hospice Care Ottawa.
Key Responsibilities:
The Bilingual Fund Development & Community Engagement Coordinator will assume responsibility for donation and event revenue, including but not limited to:
- Actively engage and cultivate relationships within the Francophone community, creating new partnerships with individuals, businesses, service clubs, schools, and community groups.
- Identify and secure new sponsorships and financial support from both Francophone and Anglophone community partners.
- Deliver compelling presentations (in English and French) to service clubs, faith-based organizations, schools, and community associations to build awareness and inspire giving.
- Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors, with a particular emphasis on Francophone prospects and networks.
- Work with the Director of Fund Development and Communications to plan, execute, and grow signature fundraising events (e.g. Gala), ensuring strong community participation and sponsorship.
- Assist with the development of fundraising communications including donor appeals, stewardship materials, newsletters, event promotions, and social media content (in English & French).
- Collaborate with translation volunteers to ensure bilingual accuracy and culturally sensitive messaging across communications.
- Provide exceptional stewardship to donors, sponsors, and volunteers, ensuring prompt recognition, meaningful engagement, and ongoing relationships.
- Maintain and grow media and community contact lists, with an emphasis on Francophone networks and outlets, to secure coverage and visibility for Hospice Care Ottawa.
- Contribute donor and family stories for newsletters, reports, and fundraising campaigns, highlighting the impact of hospice care in the community.
- Support the creation of key organizational projects such as the Annual Report, biannual newsletters, and major fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries received in the general Hospice inbox in a timely and professional manner.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Director of Fund Development & Communications.
- Provide back-up support to the Donations Administrator when needed, including processing donations and responding to donor inquiries.
- Other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years’ experience working on a small fundraising team
- 3+ years of donor relations experience with proven abilities to build, maintain and grow relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Strong commitment to offering outstanding customer/donor service
- Bilingualism (French and English) required
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once, while also being able to put everything aside to care for and listen to our donors
- Competencies include problem-solving, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Creative ideas and ambition to try and test new ways of thanking and recognizing donors, and new ways of achieving fundraising targets
- Ability to work in a demanding, results-oriented, busy environment as part of a closely-knit team and with many volunteers
- Experience working with older adults and volunteers
- Highly organized self-starter; independent and self-directed
- Excellent current skills and knowledge with constituent management programs such as Keela (or other donor database), Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint
Support for Success:
- Regular weekly Fund Development and Communications team meetings
- Encouragement to visit each Hospice site regularly to learn from one another
- Annual Staff Appreciation Retreat
- Ongoing access to the Directors and the Executive Director
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Fund Development and Communications
Position Status: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Position Schedule: 37.5 hours weekly, 5 days worked; May require occasional evenings and weekends
Compensation: $65,000 per annum. Eligible for Group Benefits (Health/Dental, Life Insurance & Disability) after 90 days. Eligible for paid personal/sick leave
Location of Work: Maison de l’Est and/or May Court Hospice
Travel: May be required able to travel within Ottawa-area to all Hospice Care Ottawa locations
Language of Work: Bilingualism (French and English) required
COVID-19: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required and the ability to continue to comply with vaccination policy
