**🚀 Summer Intern – System Implementation**
Phoela Health Inc. | Montreal, QC (Hybrid)**
Phoela Health Inc. is a McGill-born medtech startup developing portable CMOS-based biosensors for rapid detection of microbial contamination. Our mission is to make microbial testing faster, more accessible, and more reliable by bringing advanced lab technology into real-world, point-of-need environments.
We are looking for a motivated undergraduate intern to help build the wireless connectivity layer of our biosensor platform , enabling seamless communication between a Raspberry Pi–based device and a mobile phone via Bluetooth.
What You’ll Work On
- Develop and implement Bluetooth communication between a Raspberry Pi and a mobile device
- Evaluate BLE vs. classic Bluetooth and select optimal approaches
- Integrate software and hardware components for reliable data transfer
- Contribute to selecting or designing a PCB or commercial connectivity module
- Support a lightweight mobile interface for controlling CMOS parameters and storing data
- Test, debug, and document a working wireless data pipeline
By the end of the summer, you will have built a real, functional prototype that transmits biosensor data to a mobile device.
Who Should Apply
Required:
- Must be a current undergraduate student at McGill University
- Enrolled in a relevant field such as Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Bioengineering, or related disciplines
- Experience with Python and/or C/C++
- Familiarity with Raspberry Pi or embedded systems
- Basic understanding of Bluetooth/BLE
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Nice to Have (Optional):
- Experience with BLE tools (e.g., GATT, BlueZ)
- PCB design or hardware prototyping experience
- Mobile app development (Android, iOS, Flutter, etc.)
- Electronics debugging or serial communication experience
Program Details
- Offered through the McGill Engine Summer Startup Internship Award Program (SSIAP)
- Stipend: up to $6,750
- Full-time: minimum 35 hours/week for 12 weeks
