About the role

Mechanical Inspector

Position Overview WSG Energy Services is seeking experienced Mechanical Inspectors to join our team in support of a major LNG facility project in Squamish, BC. The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for verifying that mechanical installations are completed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, quality requirements, and commissioning readiness expectations. This role supports construction, mechanical completion, system turnover, and commissioning phases by conducting inspections, documenting deficiencies, and ensuring systems are ready for safe and successful startup. The successful candidate will work closely with construction, quality, commissioning, engineering, and client teams to ensure all mechanical systems meet project and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Verification Perform inspections of mechanical equipment, piping systems, valves, structural supports, and associated installations. Verify mechanical work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, vendor requirements, and applicable industry codes. Conduct field inspections to confirm compliance with project quality standards and mechanical completion requirements. Identify, document, and track deficiencies, non-conformances, and punch list items through resolution. Verify installation quality and workmanship throughout all stages of construction and system turnover.

Mechanical Completion & Turnover

Support Mechanical Completion activities by verifying systems meet turnover requirements. Review and validate inspection records, test packages, and construction documentation. Participate in system walkdowns and turnover inspections with construction, commissioning, and client representatives. Verify completion of punch list items prior to system acceptance and handover. Assist in the preparation and review of turnover packages and quality documentation.

Testing & Commissioning Support

Witness and verify pressure testing, hydrotesting, leak testing, flushing, cleaning, and preservation activities. Ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures and project specifications. Support commissioning teams during pre-commissioning and startup readiness activities. Verify mechanical systems are prepared for safe energization, startup, and operational testing. Participate in commissioning walkdowns and readiness reviews as required.

Documentation & Reporting

Complete inspection reports, deficiency reports, and quality records accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain detailed records of inspections, testing activities, and corrective actions. Review construction turnover documentation to ensure completeness and compliance. Provide daily updates on inspection activities, status of deficiencies, and turnover readiness.

Safety & Compliance

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture in accordance with WSG Energy Services and client requirements. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field-level hazard assessments. Ensure all inspection activities are conducted in compliance with site safety procedures and permit-to-work requirements. Support quality assurance and quality control processes throughout the project lifecycle.

Compliance & Governance

Follow all company policies, procedures, and quality management requirements. Ensure inspection activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, project specifications, and industry standards. Support audits, assessments, and quality reviews as required.

Training

Complete all mandatory site-specific and company-required training. Maintain current certifications and qualifications relevant to inspection responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

Technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent experience in a mechanical discipline. Minimum 5 years of mechanical inspection experience in industrial construction, LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, power, or large industrial projects. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, piping installations, rotating equipment, valves, and pressure systems. Experience supporting Mechanical Completion, System Turnover, and Commissioning activities. Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including ASME, CSA, API, and relevant industry requirements. Experience reviewing isometric drawings, P&IDs, construction drawings, and mechanical specifications. Strong attention to detail and documentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection/reporting systems. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Red Seal Mechanical Trade Certification (Millwright, Pipefitter, Steamfitter, or equivalent). CWB, API, CGSB, or related inspection certifications considered an asset. LNG, oil and gas, or major industrial project experience. Experience working within Mechanical Completion and Commissioning Management Systems (MCMS). Knowledge of turnover management and quality assurance processes.

Working Conditions

Site-based position located in Squamish, BC. Frequent field inspections in active industrial construction and commissioning environments. PPE required at all times while on site.
