ABOUT CENTRED
Centred Scotland serves an ever-growing number of communities in the Highlands and is the leading mental health charity in the region.
In Scotland there is a mental health crisis which affects more and more people each year. Unfortunately, Highland has the sad record of having the highest rate of suicide, second only to Orkney and yet the number of beds for mental health patients fell from 66.7 beds per 100,000 population to 64.90 beds. Funding for mental health support has also fallen from 9.12% to 8.53% of NHS budgets and continues to fall.
Centred is committed to playing a leading role in tackling this crisis through community support, drop-in mental wellbeing centres, a residential support unit and care at home programmes.
We help thousands of people suffering from mental ill-health on a journey to mental wellbeing every year. And we don’t just talk the talk. Our Discovery College initiative in Inverness is staffed by a team of peer workers and volunteers who have lived experience and who have all walked the walk. In fact, the college is the first of its kind in the Highlands and is now being rolled out to its second location in Caithness.
Job Description
It is a pivotal time to join the Centred Board helping to shape the strategic direction of the charity, contributing with your key skills, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
No qualifications are required to serve on the Board and Centred is keen to encourage people from all backgrounds, reflecting the communities it serves. However we are particularly keen to attract those with an understanding of finance.
These are non-remunerated positions although expenses will be paid. It’s a fantastic opportunity to work with the leading mental health charity in the region whilst developing knowledge, experience and providing networking opportunities.
