In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $71,557 to $119,269.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square.

Working for the Annual Giving unit
The Annual Giving unit at the University of Alberta is the building block for all private philanthropic support. The Annual Giving unit allows the university to pool support from multiple donors to meet the current and pressing needs of students and researchers in the faculties and the university as a whole.
Reporting to the Director, Engagement, the Senior Annual Giving Officer is responsible for managing and supporting comprehensive and sustainable direct response strategies as part of the Annual Giving strategy.
Position Summary
The Senior Annual Giving Officer is responsible for the overall implementation and management of direct response fundraising initiatives for the University of Alberta. This includes the management, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors who provide support through the Annual Giving program. This includes a wide range of channels such as direct mail and digital campaigns. A key part of the job is to research and recommend new strategies, ensuring they align with the university's funding priorities and maximize the return on investment. The role also involves developing new promotional materials, and managing the direct response activities and strategy.
Beyond strategy and implementation, this position is crucial for building and retaining a strong donor base. This is accomplished by creating and executing strategies to renew and upgrade annual gifts, which in turn develops a pipeline of prospects for major giving. The role also involves collaborating with various internal teams and external vendors, staying up-to-date on industry best practices and regulations, and regularly reporting on the results of campaigns to stakeholders.
Duties
- Develop, implement, and manage a wide range of direct response fundraising campaigns, including direct mail and digital initiatives.
- Create strategies for retaining existing donors and upgrading their gifts to cultivate a pipeline of prospects for major gifts.
- Work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including fundraisers, managers, Advancement Services, and external vendors like mail houses to determine direct response strategies/initiatives.
- Provide oversight of direct response initiatives, including planning appeals and negotiating with external vendors.
- Responsible for planning the campaign calendar, coordinating with other university departments, and reporting regularly on results to various stakeholders.
- Plays a lead role in the troubleshooting and maintenance of online giving and crowdfunding platforms using an external software application and vendors.
- Reviews statistical data in order to evaluate the progress of direct response strategies and oversees the testing of direct response initiatives.
Qualifications
- Relevant undergraduate degree
- Minimum of five years of general fundraising, sales, or marketing experience with a solid understanding of fundraising principles and methodologies.
- Experience in direct marketing is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to meet deadlines.
- Effective and strong leadership skills.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
- Process-minded individual with demonstrated project management skills.
- Strong competencies in Google Suite
- Meticulous attention to detail, including thorough documentation.
