The Senior Accountant supports the internal finance department by executing day to day accounting processes and delivering accurate, review ready financial information. This role is hands on and execution focused, responsible for completing assigned areas of the month end close, maintaining accounting accuracy, and ensuring timely follow up on receivables, invoicing, and payroll processing. The position emphasizes accountability, attention to detail, and adherence to established processes and timelines. This is an internal position - not client facing.

Your role:

Month-End Close & Core Accounting

  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and recurring entries
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash activity are accurately reflected in the general ledger
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation for all accounting entries

Financial Reporting Support

  • Prepare draft financial statements and supporting schedules for Controller review
  • Perform variance analysis versus prior periods and budget, with clear explanations
  • Investigate unusual transactions or trends and escalate issues as required

Invoicing & Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and process internal invoicing accurately and timely
  • Monitor accounts receivable balances and perform follow-up on outstanding items
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and support cash collection efforts

Payroll Processing

  • Process payroll and related accounting entries
  • Record payroll accruals, benefits, and statutory remittances
  • Support yearend payroll reporting (T4s, reconciliations, filings)

Operational Accounting

  • Support accounts payable processing and cash management activities
  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns and related reconciliations
  • Support budgeting processes through preparation of historical data and analysis

Process Discipline & Controls

  • Execute accounting processes in accordance with documented policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and audit ready documentation
  • Identify errors, inefficiencies, or control issues and recommend improvements

Role Expectations

  • Execution focused accounting role with clear accountability for accuracy and timeliness
  • Delivers review ready financial information for Controller oversight
  • Operates within established controls, processes, and reporting standards
  • Thrives in a structured, deadline driven environment

What you bring to the table:

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in Accounting or Business
  • 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including month end close
  • Strong understanding of full cycle accounting processes
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
  • CPA designation is an asset, not required
  • Xero experience is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential financial information
