We are currently seeking a Brownfield and Greenfield Pre-FID Development Engineer to join our growing team in Calgary, Alberta. In this dynamic role, you will play a key part in driving development planning and execution strategies for both new (greenfield) and existing (brownfield) assets.
As a Brownfield and Greenfield Pre-FID Development Engineer, you will support the Development Lead in planning, coordinating, and stewarding development opportunities across a range of assets. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of critical project documentation, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs, and managing workflows to advance projects through CNOOC’s technical assurance and approval processes.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to strategic development planning while working closely with cross-functional teams to support the company’s production growth objectives.
Your Background
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; PMP certification or MBA is an asset.
- Minimum of 7+ years of upstream oil and gas experience, preferable in SAGD or thermal operations.
- Strong project management background with experience in pre-FID project coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, risks, and multidisciplinary deliverables.
- Strong understanding of subsurface and surface integration, project economics, and regulatory approval processes.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work across cultures effectively.
- Strong Microsoft Office knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required.
Your Role with Our Team
Project Coordination & Execution:
- Support evaluation of pads, well pairs, sidetracks, and infills by coordinating multidisciplinary team inputs (subsurface, D&C, E&C, SCM, Land, Regulatory and Planning).
- Prepare, track, and manage key deliverables including Project Approval Forms (PAFs), AER scheme amendments, and other regulatory directives.
- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, identify risks, and ensure alignment with milestones and decision gates.
- Provide project tracking dashboards, reporting and documentation for leadership and HQ reviews.
Cross Team Collaboration:
- Facilitate effective communication across subsurface, D&C, E&C, SCM, Land, Regulatory and Planning teams.
- Support project reviews, risk workshops, technical assurance sessions and prepare decision gate packages.
- Act as liaison to ensure alignment between technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements.
Budget and Planning:
- Assist in preparing economic justifications, WP&B inputs, and project budget requests.
- Support scenario planning and sequencing of opportunities in alignment with Strategic Plans
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Draft and prepare clear presentations, reports and updates for CPNA leadership and CNOOC HQ
- Track progress of multiple project streams, escalating issues to Development Lead as needed.
Lessons Learned and Continual Improvement:
- Document and integrated lessons learned from past projects into future planning and execution for all disciplines and ensure implementation of key lessons for improvement.
