The Basics
**Location:**Jordan Mills, MB
**Compensation:**Competitive wage based on experience, with shift premiums
**Days/Hours:**We have two shifts, 12 midnight to 12 noon and 12 noon to 12 midnight. You will work a 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off pattern. You will work both days one weekend, then have the next weekend off.
**Equipment Used:**Various equipment and machinery to
- Receive, move and store soybeans
- Extract and refine soybean oil
- Ship soybean oil and soybean meal
**Material Handled:**Bulk soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil

What you’ll be doing: This hands-on position is responsible for coaching and leading a team of operators in safe and efficient day-to-day operating activities. The Mill Shift Lead coordinates the team activities and is responsible for ensuring safe work practices are flawlessly executed, including applying all company policies, procedures and safe work practices. The Mill Shift Lead will work closely with the team and location leadership, helping team members understand how their role demonstrates our company values and contributes to success.
Specific Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Collaborate with management and leadership to develop and implement plans to achieve goals.
- Create value by providing leadership, coaching, and guidance to the team, focusing on recognition, engagement, and development, and partnering with managers to act on employee suggestions and concerns.
- Be precise by ensuring training is consistent, complete and documented, and all company safe work practices are followed.
- Participate in the attracting, retaining and developing of employees while ensuring all training is completed and formal observations are made to confirm competency.
- Lead by example in all areas of risk management and help the team build a safe work practice and behaviors culture.
- Coordinate and monitor the work tasks of the team to ensure maximum safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
- Ensure that all documentation is completed including but not limited to, daily, weekly and monthly equipment inspections, housekeeping tasks, required permitting, and safe operating procedures.
- Own the outcome by ensuring the smooth operation of all work tasks and ensuring any issues or concerns are documented and escalated through the appropriate channels.
- Monitor and schedule facility, equipment and yard housekeeping to ensure proper standards are maintained by conducting daily/weekly/monthly inspections.
- Monitor inventory such as tools and supplies needed to complete tasks.
- Assist with repairs where applicable in collaboration with maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
Requirements to be successful in this position:
- Grade 12 diploma or GED
- At least one year experience in a processing plant, refinery, mill, elevator or similar
- Proven excellence for following and implementing safe work practices and championing safety behaviors.
- Prior leadership experience with the ability to create engaging work environments
- Available to work off hours and weekends
- Computer skills for data entry
- For safety reasons, must be able to read, write, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
- Professional demeanor (safety conscious, quality of job performance, cleanliness, and verbal communications)
- Able to pass a criminal background check
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must have strong attention to detail.
- Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess a continuous improvement mindset
Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:
- This job can be physically strenuous
- You will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces
- You will work at heights
- You will need the ability to frequently lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more
- This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders
- You will be required to wear PPE
