About the role

The Opportunity

Transit Dispatcher

Under the supervision of the Transit Operations Coordinator, performs public transportation and paratransit (Conventional, Accessible and On-Demand) scheduling, routing and dispatching duties; operates a variety of communication equipment, including two-way radio, telephone, computer mobile dispatch terminal and scheduling systems; creates, maintains and monitors computerized driver manifests/schedules; and responds to requests for service and provides a variety of information to passengers and the general public. Acts as the liaison between Crew Chiefs/Operators and the on-call Supervisor.

Responsibilities

Provide Conventional, On-Demand and Accessible Transit dispatching and routing services to seniors, disabled individuals, and the general public; dispatch/assign Transit vehicles as per established protocol. Prepare and maintain Accessible, Conventional, and Casual Operators two-week work schedules. Arrange for substitute driver(s) when a driver(s) does not show up for a shift, calls in absent, or needs to be replaced during their shift. Monitor transit service routes using various software to ensure integrity of schedules and public interface. Keeping the supervisory team abreast of service and employee statuses. Provide Management with a variety of reports such as daily manifests and schedules, service requests, client information, driver hours, mileage, and passenger information for all Transit services. Maintains accurate records, logs and files and create monthly reports. Consistently work towards maximizing efficiency. On-going monitoring of processes and schedules to improve services and provide the most effective service delivery. Keeping up to date with continuously improving dispatching techniques and technology. Comfortable with the use of two-way radio systems, cellphones, phones, emails, and text messages for communicating and receiving information. Proficient with use of computing and word processing programs. Provide clear and concise communication between operators, clients, supervisors, and other parties. Maintain excellent knowledge of streets, landmarks, and geography of the City of Grande Prairie. Assist Management with financial deposits, cleaning, filing, receiving, and sorting mail. Practicing exceptional customer service, provide a variety of public transportation information to passengers, the general public and other public agencies; provide quality customer service and respond to public inquiries and requests for service in a courteous manner. Respond to emergency situations as needed, including hazardous weather conditions. Coordinate with Supervisors, police, and other dispatchers as required. Maintain familiarity with applicable Safe Work Procedures and Occupational Health & Safety Guidelines for the dispatch position and all operator positions. Perform additional tasks as required.

You Bring

Grade 12 education or equivalency 2 years of communications and dispatch experience. Provide exceptional customer service to clients, passengers, operators, and co-workers. Respond in a courteous manner to requests and inquiries. Demonstrate an aptitude for mental health awareness, and working with disabled persons in a trauma informed, and respectful manner. Effectively handle difficult and sensitive information. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Operate office equipment proficiently including two-way radios, computers, cellphones, tablets and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and scheduling database applications. Adapt to changing technologies, learn functionality of new equipment and software systems and become competent in their use. Work effectively in an office environment, maintaining record integrity and confidentiality. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Assign work equitably, unbiased, and efficiently. Ability to problem-solve situations that may arise during the day.

Hours

Casual Transit Dispatcher's are on an as and when needed basis with no guarantee of hours.

Salary/Wage

Starting Salary is $29.50 per hour with a training rate of $22.81 per hour.
