Position
Underground Drill & Blast Planner, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer - Underground, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize drill and blast plans for stopes and development headings to improve fragmentation, reduce overbreak, and ensure safety.
- Perform stope optimization and reconciliation to enhance operational efficiency, control dilution, and increase ore recovery.
- Conduct field inspections and QA/QC of drill and blast activities, ensuring adherence to standards and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Report on performance metrics including dilution, recovery, cost, and productivity, and support short- and medium-term production scheduling.
- Maintain and develop infrastructure plans such as ventilation raises and service holes, while managing documentation and consumables forecasting.
- Collaborate across departments and ensure compliance with Nunavut regulations and B2Gold’s health, safety, and environmental policies.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Three (3) years of underground engineering experience in hard rock mining, including at least one (1) year in a drill and blast role; prior experience working on remote underground mine sites is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or Geological Engineering; Bachelor of Mining Technology or related with relevant experience will be considered.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists or ability to obtain is considered an asset.
- Proficient in Deswik (CAD,UGBD) is strongly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $135,733.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $49.25 and overtime rate of $73.88) in a work year.
