The Health Informatics branch provides leadership, facilitation, coordination, and oversight to Saskatchewan health sector partners to design and implement strategy for digital health, technology in capital planning, and stakeholder engagement. We provide clarity, alignment, and measurable outcomes to complex digital and capital initiatives related to technology. Our clients and partners have a provincial path forward using information management and information technology to transform the health system for patients, families, and providers.

The Opportunity

The Ministry of Health is currently recruiting for an Executive Director to join its leadership team in a pivotal role that will shape the strategic direction, drive policy development and oversee critical initiatives within the health information technology sector. Reporting to an Assistant Deputy Minister, the successful candidate will be uniquely positioned to shape the ministry’s future through dynamic leadership and meaningful engagement at every level.

As a member of the Ministry’s executive leadership team, you will:

  • Provide executive leadership in the development and coordination of key sector frameworks and strategies, including the digital health strategy and the virtual care strategy.
  • Spearhead the alignment and prioritization of IT projects across the health sector.
  • Build and maintain credible, collaborative partnerships and relationships across a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate input of Information Management and Information Technology (IMIT) expertise for capital projects in the health sector.
  • Provide budget oversights and resource optimization for eHealth.
  • Represent the ministry at sector wide and cross governmental governance and committee meetings.
  • Lead, coach and mentor a management level team to achieve branch and ministry strategies.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will:

  • Have strong leadership and people management skills with an ability to inspire, coach and develop high performing teams while driving accountability and results.
  • In-depth knowledge of government legislative process; particularly regulatory processes and protocols as it relates to public policy development and decision making.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in strategic planning, negotiation and policy development.
  • Demonstrate some knowledge and appreciation for technology project management.
  • The ability to identify and deliver key strategic insights, counsel and policy to ensure decision making is made with the best possible advice.
  • Possess excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to build consensus and foster collaboration across multiple stakeholders.

Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through:

  • Significant senior leadership experience, ideally in a public sector with emphasis on planning, policy or strategy.
  • Relevant experience handling health sector issues and partnerships.
  • A post-secondary degree in the field of public administration, business, and/or public policy with a master’s degree in a relevant field being considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
