About the role

Description: The Nutritional Services Worker portions, packages and/or serves food items according to menu, diet protocol, portion control and temperature standards within an acute care or continuing care setting. The position is also responsible for washing and putting away dishes and cleaning kitchen and surfaces throughout the kitchen. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE General Support Services Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and infection control practices. Ability to follow standardized recipes, portion control, and special diet requirements (e.g., texture-modified, therapeutic diets). Strong verbal communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Physically able to perform job duties, including standing for extended periods, lifting, pushing carts, and repetitive tasks. Demonstrated respect, patience, and compassion when working with seniors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a senior residence, long-term care, hospital, or healthcare food service environment. Familiarity with special diets for seniors, including diabetic, renal, cardiac, and dysphagia diets. Experience using commercial kitchen equipment and dishwashing systems. Knowledge of WHMIS, workplace safety, and infection prevention protocols. Basic understanding of allergens, cultural and religious dietary requirements.
