About the role

Under the supervision of the Director of Facility Management, the Resident Building Operator is responsible for overseeing the general maintenance and operation of building systems. This role includes supervising contractors and general cleaning and maintenance of the building, ensuring efficient facility operations, and maintaining mechanical systems to the highest standards.

Typical Duties:

  • Oversees and ensures the efficient maintenance, janitorial and operation of all building systems.
  • Supervises the work of team members.
  • Plans, schedules, oversees and inspects the work of maintenance trades and contractors, including janitorial contractor.
  • Completes preventative maintenance checks requested by Facility Services. Prepares and maintains maintenance programs, schedules and records, ensuring all maintenance, improvement and preventative maintenance is carried out and documented as planned and scheduled.
  • Ensures the proper functioning and maintenance of building fixtures and systems. Major emphasis is placed on mechanical systems including the boilers, heating/cooling systems and distribution, the water distribution and piping systems including sump pump systems, hot, cold and reverse osmosis systems, hot water heaters, and sprinkler systems, concession mechanical systems, range hood servicing and cleaning.
  • Services and programs the ventilation system, including filter replacement, coil cleaning and motor and fan belt maintenance.
  • Services and programs the ice plant refrigeration system and office air conditioning system.
  • Acts as liaison with the Coliseum Operators to ensure they have current facility systems operating knowledge.
  • Orders materials and supplies as required
  • Assists with the relocation and installation of fixtures and equipment.
  • Perform Changeovers when required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building systems maintenance and operation.
  • Knowledge of The Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and SaskTel Centre safety policies.
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public and other civic employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, operating and maintenance manuals in order to operate equipment within manufacture's and SaskTel Centre guidelines.
  • Ability to analyse and respond appropriately to mechanical and electrical system problems.
  • Ability to work as a team member to achieve SaskTel Centre goals.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including working in confined spaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use computers and common software tools in a professional environment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and capable of utilizing building automation interfaces, CMMS platforms, and remote monitoring software for HVAC control and reporting. Ability to learn and adapt to new digital tools and platforms as needed.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of a valid Fourth Class Engineer's Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Refrigeration Engineer's Certificate.
  • Five years' related supervisory experience in mechanical and building systems maintenance in a public assembly facility.
  • Two years experience managing, developing and adjusting control sequence, set points and schedules to optimize HVAC performance and energy efficiency.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Two years experience working with Eptura or related Work Order system
  • Journeyman certification in a construction trade would be considered an asset.

Hours of Work:

  • Hours are work are normally days with the requirement of shifting some hours to the evenings and weekends to support the event schedule
  • Stand-by shifts are required with the expectation of being fit for duty immediately when called in to work

Security Requirements**:**

  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.
  • Current Driver's Abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

RELATIONSHIP:

  • Reports to the Director of Facility Management
