SUMMARY:
Reports to the ITS Foreman - Maintenance and works under the direction of the Foreman of Electronics & Computer Services. Performs maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks, including modifications. May perform
minor elements of other trades.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a post-secondary technical diploma or certification in a recognized computer/electronics program equivalent to 2 years such as the Computer Engineering Technology program or equivalent combination of training. Required to hold a Certified Network Engineer (CNE) or a related ticket/certificate.
Minimum of 5 years recent experience working in the trade.
In-dept knowledge of Active Directory; experience with VMWARE; extensive knowledge of networking, subnetting and private network hierarchy; understanding of Layer 3 switching, VLANs and routing.
Working knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls, IBM School Connect and VPN are assets.
Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
Valid BC Driver's license. Safe driving record.
Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to use judgement when providing information. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Current and thorough knowledge of related standards, practices, regulations, codes and methods.
Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work habits.
Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
DUTIES:

Defines, designs and implements effective, functional computing and electronic solutions ensuring compatibility with current infrastructure. Creates solutions that are intended to allow for future growth.

Installs, services, repairs and maintains computer and electronic building equipment, systems and peripherals including communication systems, intrusion and other electronic equipment, Voice Over Internet Protocol, Card Access, and Routers.

Performs on-site repairs and preventative maintenance to network labs, troubleshooting and diagnosis of hardware/software problems.

Maintains and implements File Servers (including Web, DNS, Virtual Classroom, Class, e-Learner, etc) and Print Servers.

Responds to site computer/electronics problems. Directs end-users in current computer software applications and use of supporting programs.

Installs programs and maintains computer software and hardware products, district routers, switches and hubs.

Installs, connects and modifies test systems for a variety of audio/audio-visual equipment and systems.

Ensures tools, equipment and work areas are clean and safe. Maintains inventory and orders parts and supplies.

Assists in the operation of various programs such as bell programs. Manages work orders and inventory in Web Work CMM System. Provides support to end-users on-site and by telephone and email and for district wide Data Network (WAN), Firewall, etc.

Tests and makes recommendations for equipment purchase. Consults with end-users and management personnel during planning and implementation stages of new data systems and the installation of networkable/non-networkable applications. Creates and maintains end-users on the network.

Loads and unloads vehicles; transports materials and equipment as needed. Cleans checks and confirms operational safety of vehicle.

Applies safe work practices at all times. Reports unsafe conditions.

Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
