About the role

Job Description:

A Planner is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Project & Application Leadership

  • Lead the preparation and submission of planning and development applications.
  • Act as primary planning contact for clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare planning reports, rationale/justification studies, policy analysis, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure proposals align with legislation, policy and sustainability objectives.

Technical & Strategic Planning

  • Provide expert advice on complex planning issues; identify and resolve policy/regulatory conflicts.
  • Support land use feasibility analyses, land use and development assessments.
  • Incorporate and advance sustainability and environmental guidance in planning projects.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Facilitate public consultation and community engagement: prepare materials, lead sessions, and address concerns.
  • Liaise and build relationships with internal teams (architecture, engineering) and external bodies.
  • Mentor staff; help build capacity within the planning discipline.

Coordination & Delivery

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams to deliver planning-related deliverables (concept/site plans, reports) on time and to budget.

  • Participate in site assessments, field work, and data collection as needed.

  • Assist through construction/implementation phases when planning input is required.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Full membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, registered in good standing, with a designation as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive professional planning experience in land use planning/development projects in either consulting or municipal work experience, including direct interaction with clients and municipalities.
  • Experience with preparing and managing planning and development applications.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario’s planning framework.
  • Demonstrated capability in public consultation, stakeholder engagement, and presenting complex planning projects.
  • Proficiency with planning & visualization tools (GIS, AutoCAD, 3D visualization, presentation graphics).
  • High attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience at the Ontario Land Tribunal is an asset.
