About the role
We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Human Resources Manager to lead and support all aspects of Urban Impact’s HR function. This role is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and programs that ensure organizational alignment with Urban Impact’s brand values, promoting a collaborative and mission-driven environment.
The HR Manager will act as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring alignment with British Columbia employment legislation, promoting best practices in people management, and supporting organizational growth. Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership

Providing strategic HR guidance to leadership to support organizational goals and workforce planning.

Developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and programs that align with company values and operational needs.

Partnering with management to support change management initiatives and organizational development.
Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
-
Serving as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on workplace matters including performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.

Promoting a positive workplace culture built on respect, inclusion, and engagement.
-
Conducting workplace investigations when required and ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.
-
Supporting initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention, and development.
Recruitment & Talent Management
-
Supporting full-cycle recruitment including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
-
Supporting employee development initiatives including training, coaching, and performance management programs.
-
Working with leadership to identify talent needs and develop succession planning strategies.
Policy Development & Compliance
-
Ensuring compliance with BC employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights legislation, and occupational health and safety requirements.

Developing, updating, and implementing HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook materials.

Maintaining accurate employee records and ensuring HR practices follow privacy and documentation standards.

Compensation, Rewards & HR Programs

Managing compensation frameworks, benchmarking, and pay increases

Ensuring pay practices are fair, competitive, and aligned with business requirements

Assessing compensation position in the market by benchmarking against industry standards.

Analyzing employee performance and morale trends using the company’s established evaluation cadence and HR software tools.
Health, Safety & Workplace Wellbeing

Collaborating with the Safety team to promote safe work practices and support workplace safety initiatives.

Supporting the Joint Health & Safety Committee and assisting with policy implementation and compliance.
HR Operations & Reporting

Creating and maintaining HR metrics and providing insights to leadership on workforce trends such as turnover, engagement, and recruitment.

Continuously evaluating and improving HR processes and programs.

Maintaining accurate HR systems, records and documentation in accordance with company policies and legal requirements
Onboarding
-
Driving a high-impact onboarding process to quickly engage new employees and ensure their success and retention.
Communication
-
Fostering open communication channels, incorporating employee feedback and insights.
Performance Management
-
Working with CEO and managers to support the employee performance management process.
Employee Engagement
-
Working with CEO and managers to elevate employee engagement levels and reward good work,
-
Developing and maintaining productive relationships with managers, staff and peers.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in generalist, senior HR / People & Culture role.

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources
-
CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation or candidacy is considered an asset.
-
Strong knowledge of British Columbia employment legislation and HR best practices.
-
Experience with HRIS platforms is considered as asset.
-
Demonstrated experience in employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and policy development.
-
Experience conducting workplace investigations is an asset.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.

Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
-
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Urban Impact was launched as the first multi-material recycling company in Metro Vancouver. We're a family-owned business with a fresh, innovative approach to the management of waste and recycling. For more than 20 years, we've been servicing most key industrial and commercial and government sectors. Work with us to streamline waste, set diversion targets and manage your recycling.
Today, Urban Impact's team of over 100 employees and a fleet of 35 recycling trucks provide a wide range of recycling, secure paper shredding, and waste audit services. We've made significant investments in creating two large, modern Materials Recovery Facilities. Urban Impact services 5,500 locations, from Whistler to Chilliwack.
