Senior Safety Advisor - Revelstoke

Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Revelstoke DO

Employment type: Permanent Region: Southern Interior

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00

What you'll do

The focus of this role is to provide safety leadership and strategic support for Capital Construction at the Revelstoke and

Mica facilities. The Senior Safety Advisor role leads, supports, and coordinates safety-related activities to improve worker

and Contractor safety at these facilities. This role includes advising field-based teams on safety technical issues and

engaging clients to support program development, implementation, sustainment and assurance activities to meet their

requirements under the WorkSafe BC Regulations and BC Hydro’s Safety Framework.

These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides guidance and technical support on occupational health and safety matters across project(s)
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Promotes a proactive safety culture, and supports continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Conducts risk assessments and hazard analyses for work.
  • Develops and review safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Provides oversite and support for incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
  • Collaborates with project team to integrate safety into planning and execution.
  • Monitors regulatory changes and ensure organizational compliance through regular inspections.
  • Provides mentorship and coaching to other field safety personnel across multiple projects or facilities.
  • Reviews and manages local component program(s).
  • Develops and manages a focused Safe Work Observation program
  • Develops and manages a real-time Site Safety Coordination extranet.
  • Evaluates first aid and emergency response needs; and coordinating mock drills, as required.
  • Maintains a strong relationship with the local WSBC officer.
  • Acts as Site Safety Coordinator, as required.
  • Delivers site orientations, as required.
  • Leads and mentors site safety coordinator(s).
  • Performs supplementary duties that align with and support the aforementioned duties.

What you bring

  • A university degree or diploma in occupational health & safety, occupational hygiene of safety engineering, or related field

experience. An equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.

  • A minimum of five years’ experience working in the safety field, preferably in the utility, electrical, mechanical, construction

trades and/or processes.

  • Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC legislation, regulation, and policies related to workplace safety and hygiene.

What else you should know

  • Please note a condition of employment for this role is to maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.

  • Headquarters for the position is Revelstoke Generating Station but the position will also be required to support team in

Mica Creek and will require travel to Mica Creek on a semi regular basis. Headquarters in Mica Creek could be considered.
