Position Description

The Bioinformatics Analyst will run and extend analysis pipelines for human/mammalian NGS (next generation sequencing) and medical imaging data. They will be working with multiomics data to extract molecular insights for application in translational research in pediatric brain cancer. In particularly, we are interested in understanding interactions between tumor and non-tumor cells (immune, glia, etc) in order to leverage this knowledge to developed better treatments.

The position will report directly to the PI and will involve close interactions with other members of our interdisciplinary group (both wet and dry-lab), including graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinicians, and informatics facility members.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

  • Variant and copy number analysis in DNA sequencing data (panel, exome, genome)
  • RNA sequencing, proteomic (mass spectrometry), methylation, ATACseq, and other forms of multi-omic data
  • Single cell RNA/ATACseq and spatial transcriptomics
  • Digital pathology whole slides images for computer vision analysis (i.e. through deep learning)
  • Natural language processing for data extraction from medical records

Here's What You'll Need:

  • M.Sc. or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, medical science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments and high-performance computing clusters
  • Excellent programming skills (ideally Python and/or R)
  • Understanding of general biology, genetics, and cancer (equivalent to mid-level undergraduate course level)
  • Preferred experience/knowledge:

o Workflow programming tools (Snakemake and/or Nextflow)

o Machine learning/deep learning

o Medical image analysis

o NGS data analysis

o Some wet lab biology experience (such as through co-ops or undergraduate labs)

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion.
