STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays a key role in maintaining, analyzing, and enhancing the hospital’s financial and budgeting systems to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information. This position supports management and hospital committees through in-depth financial analysis, variance review, and budget preparation. It is also responsible for preparing financial reports and submissions for internal and external stakeholders, providing insights that enable effective planning and informed decision-making. Acting as a technical and analytical resource, the Senior Financial Analyst also supports position management processes and contributes to the continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting, and performance management across the organization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial Analysis, Reporting, and Decision Support: Assists managers and directors with operational financial analysis, variance explanations, and training support. Designs and maintains management reports to monitor costs, identify trends, and support decision-making for cost control and efficiency improvements. Contributes to the enhancement of management information systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Financial Reporting and Accuracy: Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and operating reports for internal and external stakeholders, including hospital leadership, government agencies, and funding bodies. Investigates discrepancies, ensures data integrity, and supports compliance with accounting standards and Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS).
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Supports the preparation and consolidation of the hospital’s annual operating budget and multi-year operating plan. Works closely with department leaders to provide training, develop budget assumptions, and monitor performance against financial targets.
  • Position Management and Compensation Analysis: Develops, maintains, and supports the hospital’s position management system. Provides guidance, training, and documentation to ensure accurate budgeting and costing of compensation and staffing resources.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the operational and strategic financial objectives of the hospital.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University Degree in Business or General Accounting
  • Completed Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in a financial reporting role in a high volume, large sized organization or public accounting firm.
  • Experience in financial audits, analysis, budgeting, and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of hospital budgeting systems, Ministry of Health MIS guidelines, and ERP systems (Meditech or similar)
  • Advanced Excel/data analysis skills

PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree in business or general accounting
  • Five (5) years of related experience in a financial reporting role in a high volume, large sized organization, healthcare environment or public accounting firm.
