Full-time, Permanent (37.5 hrs/wk) | Start Date: ASAP | Location: Waterloo

Salary: $69,654.78 to $84,764.88

About the Opportunity:

The Human Resources & Labour Relations Specialist (HR & LR Specialist) is responsible for administering and supporting daily human resources and labour relations functions at KidsAbility. This role provides coaching, guidance, and interpretation related to human resources practices, employment legislation, and the Collective Agreement within a unionized environment.

Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting and administering human resources and labour relations policies, procedures, programs, and practices, providing guidance and interpretation.
  • Supporting a positive and respectful labour relations environment in collaboration with union representatives and management.
  • Interpreting and applying or upholding the terms the terms of the Collective Agreement, organizational policies, and relevant legislation.
  • Providing human resources services and support to staff at all levels, contributing to effective employee relationship management.
  • Acting as a resource and first point of contact on employee and labour relations inquiries.
  • Travel to other KidsAbility sites and external business locations beyond the primary site may be required.

In addition to the above qualifications, the following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • CHRP designation or working towards CHRP designation is an asset.
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or similar field
  • Three to five years of experience supporting labour relations, grievance processes, union communication participation.
  • Three to five years of progressive human resources experience, including experience in a unionized environment.
  • Solid understanding of Human Rights Code legislation (including special programs, accommodation, competing rights), Employment Standards, AODA, employment related law, human resources management and bias-free hiring and promotion principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Collaboration skills to be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to use word processing, data processing, management and analysis software, email and web-based software.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License, and availability of a motor vehicle required.
