The Copper Mountain mine currently produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a future mill expansion and the integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain Mine is expected to produce approximately 140 million pounds of copper equivalent per year over the first 20 years of its 32-year mine life based on reserves. The Opportunity Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Projects Field Engineer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2, Monday to Friday, straight days shift with compressed work schedule option.

Position Projects Field Engineer Location Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.
Summary Reporting to the Sustaining Capital Projects Manager, the Project Field Engineer will provide critical support to the Project team in coordinating engineering, contractor interactions, and project documentation for various improvement projects at the mine site. This role ensures smooth information flow, assists with project controls, field verification and contributes to a safe work environment by promoting and enforcing health and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Promote Copper Mountain’s Health and Safety culture and enforce health and safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment,
- Coordination of Engineering and Contractor RFI’s,
- Field assessments of current equipment and buildings for the purpose of gathering information for detailed engineering of various projects,
- Coordinate material supply packages design and information between Engineering Consultants and Suppliers,
- Work with Project Management and Construction Management teams to direct flow of information (RFIs, drawings, people) during construction,
- Ability to keep track of scope and battery limits across various stakeholders and participants,
- Dig Permits, assist coordinators with drafting and obtaining signatures on permits as needed,
- Create construction packages for contractors, print off all relevant drawings and data sheets for the project to create field packages for contractors,
- Create Purchase Requisitions (PRs) for projects as needed,
- Initiate Project Change Requests (PCRs) and liaise with document control,
- Expedite and perform internal Document Reviews,
- Project planning and coordination between Engineering Design, Construction, Contractors, and Operations,
- Project Controls Support – assist where required to compile, process and analyze project costs, schedule, and change management,
- Project closeout support, locate any missing vendor documents as needed, uploading photos to SharePoint,
- Assist Project Team with contractor installation field verification where required,
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required .
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering,
- Experience working in an industrial project setting with people from diverse backgrounds, qualifications, and professions as a Coordinator or Field Engineer,
- Experience with industrial brownfield and greenfield projects,
- Previous experience working at a mine site considered an asset .
Required Skills
- Highly organized. The ability to find information within the systems provided is highly desirable,
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of one or two disciplines (ie: Civil, Structural, Concrete, Mechanical, Electrical etc.) in a construction environment,
- Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic environment,
- Excellent clear concise verbal and written communication,
- Ability to communicate complex ideas, thoughts, and concepts to audiences of varying technical knowledge,
- Details and results-oriented with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines,
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities,
- Willingness to work a flexible shift when required. During shutdown tie-ins, meeting deadlines or to address urgent matters,
- Ability to hike moderately steep inclines and climb stairs and ladders to scope out projects, supervise or inspect work,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements,
- Proficiency in SharePoint,
- Understanding of Document Control Standards and Procedures,
- Understanding of Document Version Control,
- Proficient in 3D Model Viewing Software (Navisworks),
- Working knowledge of Project Controls Processes (Cost, Schedule, Change Management),
- Proficient in Google Suite of products,
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite of products,
- Familiarity with Maximo & SAP ERP systems,
- Proficient in PDF programs,
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation ,
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Working Conditions
- This role offers a balance between working in an office and in the field,
- The role is site based,
- Requires walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, and working in various weather conditions,
- Requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods,
- Exposure to typical mine site conditions, including dust, noise, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures,
- Adherence to strict safety protocols is paramount,
- This role is in a fast-paced environment that may require adapting to changing priorities and schedules .
Salary Range $120K - $130K / annum
