What You Will Get To Do

The successful candidate will have a positive impact on our corporate culture by demonstrating the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) through daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials.

By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.

Reporting to the Manager of Operations (Roads/Traffic), or designate, the Supervisor of Operations (Roads/Traffic) is responsible for overseeing the daily operation and supervision of the Roads divisions; urban and rural roads, traffic signs and pavement markings and storm water management; including:

  • supervising and directing staff;
  • providing strong leadership, advice and guidance to staff;
  • actively reviewing and establishing maintenance standards, work plans and performance expectations for both staff and contractors;
  • assisting the Manager with the preparation and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets;
  • preparation of reports and correspondence in response to operational issues;
  • preparation and administration of work contracts, purchase orders, quotations and tenders;
  • responding to and resolving public inquiries and complaints;
  • responding to after-hours emergencies and storm events;
  • ensuring that federal, provincial and municipal legislative requirements are adhered to including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Highway Traffic Act, etc.; and,
  • other related duties as required.

Who You Are

You are a strong leader who motivates and guides individuals and teams and holds them accountable for results. You lead, motivate, and supervise effectively in a complex, unionized work environment. You encourage high performance through empowerment. You are a collaborative problem solver that has experience showing diplomacy and sound discretion navigating through competing priorities and ensuring the perspectives of others are considered.

You use your knowledge and experience in the field coupled with strong communication skills to guide staff and stakeholders. You are a master at juggling deadlines and prioritizing workloads in alignment with the strategic direction of the operation. You evaluate situations, recognize potential - and potential issues - and make decisions based on the consideration of multiple variables and points of view.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you will possess:

  • A post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline;
  • A minimum of four (4) years progressive experience in supervisory role; including utilization of strong management and/or decision making skills, while successfully leading a large work group(s), or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • A C.E.T. designation in good standing from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, consultants and the general public;
  • The ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, including organizing and prioritizing workloads;
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively implement and/or support organizational change initiatives;
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate and/or support organizational practices such as human resource services;
  • Considerable fiscal and budget management skills;
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • strong technical, analytical and reasoning skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency within the operations;
  • A thorough understanding of municipal government, related legislation and industry best practices;
  • A valid driver’s license (Class “G”) maintained in good standing.

Salary Range/Hourly rate:

$123,123.00 - $139,912.00

Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., schedule may have seasonal fluctuations or require flexible hours of work, including days, evenings and weekends. (40 hours per week, plus additional hours as required.)
