About the role

The Fresh Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of Clerks within the Fresh department. This includes the scheduling of daily activities including floor rotations and breaks. The Fresh Supervisor will provide training and direction to Clerks and will provide staff with feedback on their performance in the moment. The Fresh Supervisor will be responsible for completing additional daily tasks including stocking, rotating, building displays and providing excellent customer service.

Reports to the Fresh Manager. The Fresh Supervisor works directly with the Fresh Management team, Supervisory team and all department staff, other stores, Head Office support teams, Warehouse and Manufacturing teams

Work Performed

Daily Supervision

  • Planning and delegating the work of Clerks including the scheduling of daily shift rotations to ensure all Clerks are appropriately relieved when necessary and to ensure task variety to the team
  • Schedule daily breaks of Clerks
  • Train new Clerks and provide on-going training to members of the department
  • Setting expectations of performance and providing feedback to Clerks in the moment regarding customer interactions and to ensure their compliance with procedures and best practices
  • Actively managing the work of Clerks by engaging with them, assessing and supporting them and providing tools for development
  • Enforce policy adherence

Produce Handling

  • Ensure that best practices are used when handling product to ensure customer safety and satisfaction
  • Takes timely action to ensure that products are merchandised to the store floor whenever available
  • Uses daily procedures to ensure that work is completed efficiently
  • Ensure product is rotated, within date, and properly displayed on shelves
  • Filling assigned sections as needed
  • Clean shelves and merchandising materials and maintain tidy work areas in the back room and the sales floor

System Utilization

  • Maintain department equipment in a neat, clean, orderly and safe manner
  • Ensure adherence to the correct utilization of CNF systems
  • Effectively follow product ordering procedures and guidelines
  • Support the implementation of new systems as needed to ensure that products are handled effectively

Customer Service

  • Greet and engage with customers in accordance with their interest, being attentive to their needs

  • Communicate with customers with high level of professionalism and with a positive and friendly nature

  • Answer customer questions, and when answer is unknown work with customer to find a solution/answer

  • Manage and resolve customer complaints effectively and understand when a situation requires a manager's intervention

  • Communicate sales and promotions, make sales referrals, cross-sell and introduce new products and support in-store events Maintain professional and friendly relationships with vendors and business partners

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required
  • 3-5 years retail experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the Natural Foods Industry and its products
  • High care for product integrity and proper product handling
  • Technical aptitude – developed competency with POS, computers
  • High attention to detail, perceptive and attentive
  • Comfort directing staff and providing feedback
  • Friendly, positive attitude and high energy
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Exceptional conflict resolution - willingness to directly address concerns when they arise
  • High EQ – developed ability to relate with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Strong interpersonal communication – both verbal and written
