PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada’s largest airport for the future of air travel—including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.
JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, assessment, and monitoring of environmental initiatives for the Pearson Accelerator Construction Team (PACT). This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and advances GTAA’s environmental goals while working closely with construction teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to integrate these within the entire construction value chain, from planning, procurement, construction and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and project-specific requirements.
- Support development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESC), and Waste Management Plans.
- Conduct site inspections, identify non-conformances, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Assist in gathering data for Greenhouse Gases (GHG) reporting, carbon tracking, and sustainability metrics required under the PACT program.
- Support environmental initiatives focused on emissions reduction, materials optimization, and sustainable construction practices.
- Maintain accurate environmental records, permits, monitoring logs, and inspection reports.
- Prepare weekly and monthly environmental updates for internal stakeholders, project managers, and the PACT leadership team.
- Track environmental KPIs and contribute to program-wide dashboards and reporting tools.
- Conduct environmental monitoring including soil, water, air, noise, waste, and wildlife interactions.
- Support spill response efforts, reporting, and follow-up actions.
- Coordinate sampling activities with labs and vendors as needed.
- Work closely with construction teams, consultants, contractors, and airport partners to ensure environmental obligations are met.
- Provide guidance to site personnel on environmental best practices and permit conditions.
- Participate in toolbox talks, training sessions, and awareness briefings as needed.
- Develop presentation material and meeting minutes, as required.
- Identify opportunities to enhance environmental performance across sites and support PACT-wide innovation initiatives.
- Recommend improved processes for waste diversion, emissions reduction, and resource efficiency.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position will be based at our office in Mississauga, Ontario, with regular visits to the Airport site as required. This position is 5 days per week with core hours of work between approximately 8:00am–5:00pm with 1 hour lunch or as agreed upon with your manager. All employees must complete a RAIC and Criminal background check upon joining the company.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental coordination, monitoring, or compliance within construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with carbon reporting frameworks or sustainability programs is an asset.
- Experience with large infrastructure or transportation projects is an asset.
- Experience conducting environmental monitoring, inspections, and audits.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and manage documentation.
- Proactive problem‑solver with strong organizational skills.
