WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the efficient design of company products in compliance with all applicable codes, specifications, and industry practices. You will play a key role in guiding junior staff, collaborating across departments, and ensuring high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Responsibilities:

Design and review structural products with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with codes and company policies.

Seal drawings, including reviewing and sealing work by junior designers (EITs).
-
Perform and verify structural calculations to ensure efficient material use and code compliance.
-
Check and approve building reactions, loading, and preliminary drawings.
-
Oversee and mentor junior technical staff and co-op students.
-
Support Project Managers with site-related issues and assist production with fabrication concerns.
-
Collaborate with drafting and manufacturing to improve product efficiency.
-
Maintain accuracy of in-house design software and assist with design enhancements.
-
Stay current with code changes, new technologies, and industry best practices.
-
Participate in estimating and quoting processes when authorized.
-
Conduct occasional shop and field visits to support application of designs.
-
Promote and uphold company safety practices and comply with OHSA regulations.
-
Delivering accurate, efficient, and code-compliant product designs for complexity 1–10 projects.

Completing assigned projects and change orders on schedule and aligned with customer requirements.

Driving continuous improvement by seeking and implementing more efficient design and process methods.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Education & Experience:
-
Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
-
Licensed in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and/or other Canadian provinces.
-
10+ years of experience in steel/metal building system design.
-
Strong understanding of engineering principles related to structural steel and light gauge steel design.
Skills & Abilities:
-
Knowledge of building codes, design codes, and industry standards.
-
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, limitations, and fabrication methods.
-
Proficiency with in-house and commercial design software (MBS strongly preferred).
-
Working knowledge of 3D design software (e.g., ADA, RISA, STAAD) and FEA connection design software (e.g., Idea StatiCa).
-
Ability to review and verify computer-generated designs.
-
Strong collaboration skills and ability to liaise across departments.
-
