About the role

WHO WE ARE:

We are a unique global organization with a culture of individuals passionately committed to our respective crafts. With underwriting at our core, each of us contributes to providing the best insurance coverage and service to our clients. Working together, we are one Chubb. Our highly collaborative, inclusive nature helps us drive better business outcomes through diversity of background, experiences, insights and values. We approach problems with a can-do attitude and are committed to developing deep relationships — all while moving quickly to meet client needs.

ABOUT THE CHUBB ASSOCIATE PROGRAM (CAP):

As part of the CAP program you will be part of an experience that supports the well-rounded development of critical business skills which in turn contributes to the future success of our company. Our two year program is designed to include hands-on business assignments in one of a variety of disciplines, interactive classroom instruction, team assignments and direct interaction with other early career professionals as well as experienced professionals and engaged leaders.

CAP is a truly blended curriculum that includes coordinated classroom training, webinar training, online self-study, on-the-job learning, group project work, mentoring and networking. As part of CAP, you will receive:

• Challenging assignments and the opportunity to contribute to the results of a team;

• Collaborative learning and group assignments with program members to help gain broader organizational understanding;

• Technical training to deepen your skill level within your chosen discipline and an understanding of our broader industry;

• Interpersonal effectiveness skill development to help you enhance communication and interactive skills;

• Executive engagement allowing program members the opportunity to network and learn from Chubb’s thought leaders;

• Peer mentoring support to help members navigate through professional situations in their early development;

• A pathway to leadership development opportunities and global assignments.

From Day One, you will play an active role within the organization by developing new ideas, having exposure to new business opportunities, and providing service to an existing renewal portfolio. To be successful, you will need to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with our brokers and interface with them to develop winning solutions. Your analytical abilities and strong broker relationships will help Chubb grow profitably and reach our overall business targets.

UNDERWRITING OVERVIEW:

Underwriters in general weigh the risks associated with a prospective customer’s business, determine if the business meets Chubb’s criteria of acceptability approve or decline the risk, negotiate contract terms, determine pricing, and work closely with independent brokers to manage the business they place with Chubb.

From the moment you join Chubb, you will begin the process of learning and applying a variety of underwriting skills. You will be given a “book of business” to manage and your success will come from your own efforts. To be successful, you will need to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, with your assigned group of external brokers. This will allow you to learn more about their clients’ needs and encourage the broker to submit to us their business. Your strong relationships will make your brokers want to choose you and Chubb over the other insurance carriers they do business with.

Once a risk is submitted, you will investigate, evaluate, and analyze it to determine if it is a risk worth taking or renewing. In order to do so, you will need to research and understand the client’s risk, whether personal or commercial in nature. You will develop appropriate contract wording and pricing. Finally, you will negotiate and market our product to your brokers in order to secure new business and retain existing business.
