Alethea is an eConsult and digital diagnostic platform that helps Family Physicians to get specialist advice in 1 day instead of the months or years of a traditional referral. We are dedicated to creating web applications that offer exceptional user experiences and genuinely enhance the practices of our Family Physicians and Specialists.
The Role
We are growing and looking for an experienced, Alberta based, rock-star technical lead for our development team.We are a startup, so we are seeking a senior developer that can work as part of a team, to solve problems and deliver results, as well as mentor a junior team. As part of the development team you will be responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining our various platforms on mobile and web, which are already making a profound impact on thousands of family doctors and patients.
Your Responsibilities:
- Build Alethea’s frontend web and mobile applications using React-Typescript and Firebase services.
- Maintain and develop our backend using Node.JS and Firebase services.
- Work in the Google Cloud Platform to manage all aspects of the application.
- Debug and test our applications.
- Work with our Product Team to identify new features to fulfill user needs.
- Participate in every stage of development, from architectural decisions to deploying your code.
Who You Are:
- A self-starter with 5+ years of experience building and maintaining full-stack applications
- Strong experience designing and implementing large scalable apps
- Strong knowledge in React, Typescript and Node.js and working within cloud environments (Firebase, GCP, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Passionate about building high-quality, user-centric software that solves real-world problems
- Will challenge the status quo, with the intent of improving how doctors work, and our software and development practices.
- Comfortable working in an agile, remote-first team and taking ownership of projects from inception to deployment
- Familiarity with healthcare, AI, or startups is a plus—but not required
- The candidate needs to be Alberta based

In practice, Alethea provides a toolkit for Family Physicians to record, review, and collaborate over images. Meanwhile, Alethea Artificial Intelligence offers point-of-care diagnostic support for all Ear, Nose, Throat, and Dermatologic conditions. Using our eConsult templates, our Partnering Physicians receive same-day recommendations for treatment and follow-up, without the need to wait months to years for a traditional consultation.
