Controller/Assistant Controller
About the role
Controller / Assistant Controller Location: Calgary, AB (Downtown, full-time on-site)
Type: Permanent
Salary: $130,000–$140,000 annually + performance-based bonus potential
We are partnered with a growing international organization that has recently completed an acquisition and is seeking an experienced Controller (or Assistant Controller ready for the next step) to join their Calgary office. This role offers the opportunity to lead through a period of exciting change, establish local processes, and work closely with senior leadership in both Canada and the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations for the Calgary-based entity.
- Build and manage a small local accounting team, while leveraging shared service resources based in Houston (e.g., Accounts Payable).
- Lead financial reporting, including monthly management reporting to senior leadership (President, GM, VP Sales).
- Act as the primary liaison between finance and external auditors.
- Provide operations and inventory reporting to support business performance.
- Support HR and payroll processes in coordination with the corporate office in Houston.
- Partner with the General Manager in Calgary (direct reporting) and CFO in Houston (indirect reporting).
- Potentially contribute to global reporting requirements.
- Ensure timely, accurate invoicing support for Canadian operations.
Requirements
- CPA designation required, with progressive experience in finance and accounting leadership.
- Oil & Gas industry experience is required; service-side exposure is an asset.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment, ideally with M&A or transition experience.
- Strong background in financial reporting, operational analysis, and audit coordination.
- Demonstrated experience working with senior management and presenting financials at the executive level.
- Proficiency in Dynamics 365 and Power BI is an asset
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to establish local processes and functions.
