The Key Account Manager is responsible for leading strategic growth and account development for a defined group of major industrial customers in Alberta. This role focuses on increasing share of wallet, coordinating pursuits across multiple internal teams, and strengthening the organization’s position as a long-term strategic partner.
Reporting to senior commercial leadership, the Key Account Manager serves as the primary commercial lead for assigned accounts and is responsible for shaping long-cycle opportunities, driving structured account planning, and maintaining senior-level customer relationships. The position emphasizes strategic engagement and disciplined execution rather than transactional sales activity.
Strategic Account Leadership
- Develop and execute multi-year growth plans for assigned key accounts
- Identify and advance opportunities related to capital projects, modernization initiatives, and integrated technical solutions
- Map customer organizations and build relationships across operational, technical, and executive levels
- Align account strategies with broader commercial objectives
Executive Relationship Management
- Serve as the senior commercial point of contact for key customers
- Lead strategic reviews, planning sessions, and executive-level discussions
- Build trusted relationships across procurement, engineering, operations, and leadership teams
- Position the organization as a long-term partner for complex operational needs
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Promote the full portfolio of capabilities across assigned accounts
- Coordinate collaboration between technical, service, and project teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Support internal alignment on priorities, resourcing, and pursuit strategies
- Surface and advance opportunities that require cross-team coordination
Complex Opportunity & Project Engagement
- Lead or support pursuits involving large capital projects, multi-disciplinary scopes, or long sales cycles
- Partner with engineering, proposals, and operations teams to shape value propositions and commercial strategies
- Identify technical, commercial, and execution risks early in the sales cycle
- Contribute to structured bid/no-bid decision processes
Reporting & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate CRM records, account plans, and forecasts
- Contribute to quarterly business reviews and pipeline reporting
- Provide forward-looking visibility into opportunities and expected order intake
- Share market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
- 10+ years of progressive experience in industrial B2B sales or key account management
- Strong familiarity with Alberta’s industrial sectors, including oil & gas, mining, forestry, manufacturing, or EPC environments
- Proven success managing complex, long-cycle sales or project-based opportunities
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary or matrixed organizations
- Exposure to industrial electrical or automation technologies is considered an asset
- Strong commercial judgment, communication skills, and executive presence
- Self-directed, strategic, and highly professional approach
