Position Summary Working under the direction of the Manager, Professional Practice, and in collaboration with the Program Managers, Advanced Practice Nurses, Clinical Education Coordinator and educational partners, the Clinical Educator assists clinical staff in preparing for contemporary practice through the provision of education and professional development activities. The Clinical Educator supports clinical staff to acquire and maintain nursing/clinical core competencies, knowledge and skills reflective of the most current evidence based care for individuals admitted to specialized hospital services. The Clinical Educator will promote and provide support and assistance to individual clinical staff member’s professional accountability for reflective practice and self-directed learning. They will support coverage for co-workers and staff when required.
The Clinical Educator will ensure that educational activities reflect the Mission, Vision, Values, goals, and priorities of Providence Care.
Skills And Qualifications Required
- Baccalaureate in Nursing required; an equivalent combination of education and experience of practice development in a hospital may be considered
- Two years of Complex Medical or Rehabilitation experience
- Current, unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Adult Education or minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching adult education programs
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant clinical areas providing direct patient care
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
- Canadian Nurses Association Certification in specialty area where applicable, preferred
- Canadian Nurse Educator Certificate, preferred
- Current valid Ontario driver’s license
Position Responsibilities
- Works in collaboration with the Academic Clinician, Nursing Research Lead to advance professional nursing competencies based on the College of Nurses of Ontario and best practice standards
- In collaboration with the Academic Clinician, Nursing Research Lead and Advance Practice Nurses, develops and delivers evidence-based education material and ensures knowledge/practice transition into education plans
- In collaboration with the Clinical Education Coordinator – ensures that clinical education is organized and consistent for all clinical staff and clinical students
- Presents and facilitates educational programs and in-services and evaluates activities
- Identifies practice issues/gaps using an evidence-based approach, and assists with implementing/educating a best practice approach
- Develops, implements, and coordinates a competency based interprofessional clinical orientation program and ongoing educational opportunities for the hospital programs
- Provides a climate conducive to productive learning and facilitates the adult learning process by assisting with program development and planning
- Works in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and its regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all health and safety policies, procedures and legislation including, wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required
