Position Description

Come join the wonderful world of SickKids! As part of the finance team, you will be the front office ambassador responsible for opening & closing the Business Office, as well as the face of the finance team for patients, their families and other areas across the hospital. Key responsibilities will include providing superior customer service at the counter, managing telephone inquiries, and the processing of deposits and cash balancing initiatives. The Business Office is the main cash office for the entire Hospital. Please note that this is an on-site role. All payments are processed through the Business Office excluding Research Finance.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Responsible for opening the Business Office during regular working hour.
  • Daily reconciliations of cash and cheque deposits (Opening and closing).
  • Counter and telephone customer service for both internal and external customers (families and other staff across the Hospital) who are looking to make a payment.
  • Single point of contact for deposits for the whole hospital.
  • Payment allocation for all Patient and Non-Patient Business Units excluding Research.
  • Primary contact for EFT's and EFT allocation.
  • Disbursement of Petty Cash, AP Cheques, Taxi Chit booklets, HR Cheques.
  • Preparation of journal entries to record expenses for petty cash as well as HR recoveries.
  • Responsible for setting up payment arrangements with clients in compliance with policies and processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accurate coding and posting of deposits to patient accounts are completed by required timelines (including month end).
  • Call the Ministry of Health to validate Health Cards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers in order to research and provide solutions when disputes arise and minimize any duplicate billing errors.
  • Other duties assigned, pertaining to the day to day operation of the Business Office.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Here's What You'll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Post Secondary Diploma/Certification in Accounting/Finance.
  • 3-5 years experience working in an accounting/finance dept.
  • Keen eye for detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal.
  • Proven outstanding customer service skills.
  • Solid relationship building & team-spiritedness.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

Employment Type:

  • Full-time, 6 month contract with possible extension
