Labourer I, River Valley Parks & Facilities

The River Valley & Horticulture Section of the Community Recreation and Culture Branch is looking for motivated labourers to support the team with the day to day operations of our beautiful River Valley parks and facilities.
Your contribution will make a difference as you take on diverse responsibilities including maintaining park amenities, supporting winter events, and ensuring our parks remain clean and welcoming for all visitors.

What will you do?
- Complete daily janitorial duties throughout River Valley facilities
- Clear walkways of snow and debris around facilities
- Sand slippery walkways and facility access routes
- Collect refuse in parks
- Maintain ski trails, ice surfaces and toboggan hills
- Complete minor maintenance activities on various park infrastructure and landscape elements
- Operate equipment and complete minor equipment maintenance
- Open and close facilities in alignment with security protocols
- Provide excellent customer service to park visitors
- Work independently as well as cohesively with team members
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent
Assets:
- Janitorial or facility maintenance experience
- Snow removal experience
- Previous experience maintaining cross country ski trails and/or outdoor ice surfaces
- Air brakes (Q) certification or equivalent
- Experience operating a water truck, plow truck, broom and/or snowmobile
Skills required for success:
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to safely perform medium to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in a variety of environmental conditions
- Must be physically capable of performing duties, including repetitive bending and lifting, climbing multiple flights of stairs, shoveling snow, etc.

Conditions of Employment:
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment is required
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or provincial equivalent
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is required
Work Environment:
- Operational hours for this position are from 0500-2400, 7 days a week. The ability to adapt to changing shift schedules across the early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays is required
