About the role

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Security Switchboard/Dispatcher is an integral member of the Security team. This role

is responsible for

answering and directing incoming telephone calls and responding to emergency code calls and alarms. As well, this role

is responsible for

all overhead paging services, parking lot(s) entry and exit gates, monitors

alarms

, provides visitor information, support to on-call Managers and responsible for

maintaining

call lists for clinical staff. They also

assist

with clerical duties as assigned to support departmental needs.

 

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:

 

  • Post-Secondary education in an Emergency Services Communications, Emergency Responder, Emergency Telecommunications Program, Security or equivalent similar education or experience

  • Previous security dispatch experience, preferably one (1) year experience in a healthcare setting

  • Previous call taking/switchboard experience, preferably six (6) months’ experience in healthcare dealing with high call volumes

  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and conflict resolution skills and able to work through conflicts and differences in a respectful manner

  • Demonstrated customer service skills along with professional and informative attitude while interacting with the public, patients, employees and medical staff while working in a fast-paced, intense environment while remaining calm

  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient and staff safety

  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment and within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office, Milestone, Simplex,

    Elpas

    , Amano Parking, Perspective, Cerner)

  • Building service alarm knowledge (med gases, fire, med/fridge alarms, maintenance alarms)

  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH’s Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

 

WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:

 

  • Crucial Conversations training or willing to obtain

HOURS:

 

Must be able to meet the availability and non-availability requirements outlined in the OPSEU Service Collective Agreement.
