##About the position

Duties Medical Officers are physicians licensed in Canada whose main responsibility is to evaluate immigration files for medical admissibility to Canada.

You will be responsible for:

  • Performing medical adjudication of immigration medical examination results: Review and analysis of results from laboratory testing, chest x-rays and specialist reports; continual communication with IRCC’s global network of panel physicians and radiology clinics; use of technological software.
  • Determining medical admissibility and complex file support for overseas Regional Medical Offices.
  • Collaborating with team members at NHQ and at Regional Medical Offices: Ongoing professional development; participation in team meetings and clinical rounds.
  • Contributing to the development of guidelines and policies as necessary, including Technical Instructions and Quality Assurance guidelines.
  • Actively participating in quality assurance activities, including providing support and guidance to IRCC’s network of panel physicians around the world.
  • Evaluating and monitoring cases with strong suspicion or confirmed diagnosis of active Tuberculosis to ensure appropriate investigation and treatment is completed.
  • Other administrative duties, as required.

You will be based in Ottawa but will participate on a rotational basis at overseas Regional Medical Offices, as operational needs require.

The screening board cannot make any assumptions about your experience. It is not sufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current duties.
  • Your answers will be used to assess your written communication skills. Your resume may be used as a secondary source of information to validate your experience. Applications that do not clearly demonstrate that the candidate meets the screening criteria will not be given further consideration.

##Operational Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, often on short notice.
  • This role includes extended (multi-year) overseas postings, as operational needs require. Candidates who are appointed may be required to work internationally for field assessments, temporary duty assignments (generally about six weeks), project requirements and to participate in conferences.

  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized school of medicine.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:The minimum standard is:

  • Eligibility for a licence to practice medicine in a province or territory of Canada.

EXPERIENCE:EX1- Significant*clinical experience in a Canadian context.

EX2- Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary work team or setting.

EX3- Significant*experience and comfort charting on an electronic medical record, as well as Excel, Word, Outlook.

EX4- Experience analyzing and synthesizing medical information.

  • Significant experience refers to a minimum of twelve (12) months of experience.
