Position: Facilities Operations Technician

**Reports to:**Director, Facilities, Safety & Security

Hours/Days of Work35 hours/week, Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Salary:$46,331 to $55,188 per year

The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance and other building operations tasks.

The Facilities Operations Technician repairs, troubleshoots, inspects and completes service requests and conducts preventive maintenance in an efficient and timely manner. This role entails walking, standing and sitting, as well as working both indoors and outdoors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assembles and dismantles equipment and furnishings for classroom and event setups, as requested.

  • Performs preventive maintenance including minor renovations and routine repairs of defective equipment, tools and furnishings, including but not limited to windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, roof and other parts of building structures.

  • Completes floor inspections and performs preventative treatments including heat pump treatment, drain line enzyme treatment and pit maintenance.

  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure the physical condition of buildings, machinery and premises does not deteriorate, including but not limited to minor electrical and plumbing repair, painting, woodwork, HVAC and generators.

  • Replenishes products in washrooms, clinic areas and common rooms.

  • Maintains grounds and exterior areas, including snow removal, gardening, waste removal, spill cleanup and replenishment of ice melt bins. Maintains outdoor equipment, including small engine maintenance and repairs.

  • Inspects and maintains boiler rooms and mechanical rooms.

  • Dismantles, moves, assembles and repairs equipment and furnishings in the auditorium and other areas as requested.

  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery and equipment.

  • Maintains and inspects safety equipment, including first aid kits and emergency lighting, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards.

  • Orders and picks up supplies, monitors inventory levels and advises management of reordering requirements.

  • Opens, closes and secures the premises in accordance with established procedures and safety regulations.

  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Academic

  • Certificate from post-secondary institution, 1-year College Diploma, or 1-year specialized technical training program certificate in maintenance.

  • Supplier training related to machinery, equipment and tools

-Skills & Competencies

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a related role

  • Ability to lift and transport heavy furniture, equipment and supplies

  • Ability to work shifts and perform on-call duties

  • Ability to work from scaffolding or heights

  • Knowledge and adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act

  • Knowledge of WHMIS an asset

  • Maintains a valid G-class Ontario driver’s licence with at least 5 years of driving experience
