Assignment: Learning Commons Facilitator

FTE: Permanent Full-Time - 1200 annual hours

Located in the City of Calgary and supporting students from Grade 7 to 12, Calgary Christian Secondary School invites enthusiastic individuals to apply for the Permanent, Full-Time Learning Commons Facilitator vacancy available August 25, 2025 (or date mutually agreeable) .

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with school staff to gather data and resources to meet the learning needs and interests of students;
  • Provide support, space and resources for inquiry, play, and imagination in consultation with Administration;
  • Collaborate with teachers to find resources (repositories of learning materials, audiobooks, etc.) to support learning;
  • Engage students in the learning process;
  • Provide support, resources, and opportunities for transferability of learning to support broad exploration and inquiry that leads to deeper learning;
  • Support the use of technology for learning and assist Administration with digital citizenship initiatives;
  • In collaboration with Administration, create and maintain a school Learning Commons Plan for the purposes of promoting the use of quality print and digital learning resources in multiple formats that address a diverse range of student learning and developmental needs;
  • Maintain resource inventory through the automated Library software program;
  • Provide support with research skills development for staff and students that promote academic integrity;
  • Promote literacy within your school community;
  • Work collaboratively in the selection and acquisition of material for the learning commons in consultation with Administration and/or the school-based Learning Commons Committee;
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory in consultation with Administration;
  • Assist with the supervision of students in the learning commons and provide support to students;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by administration.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in a recognized administrative assistant program (i.e. Administrative Information Management Diploma or equivalent)
  • One year of related experience in a library environment, preferably in a school setting.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education or directly related experience may be considered.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in word processing applications.
  • Demonstrated electronic search technique skills.
  • Accurate keyboarding skills an asset. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be able to take initiative, be self- motivated and have the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to work with constant interruptions.
  • Must be a continuous learner.
  • Must possess the ability to relate to students and staff and to participate collaboratively in a creative learning team environment.
  • Personal suitability.

To support the Faith-Based Vision of the school and the society, the teacher should also possess:

  • A commitment to Christian education. Provide a Statement of personal Christian Faith detailing a commitment to Christian Faith and education, with an accompanied letter of Pastoral reference (required).

In order to maintain a safe and secure working environment, applicants new to The Palliser School Division must provide:

  • Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment;
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check;
  • Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card.

The Palliser Regional Schools is a school jurisdiction located in southern Alberta. The geographical area stretches from just south of Lethbridge to the Bow River south of Calgary. Palliser Centre houses the Central Office Administration, Maintenance and Transportation Services and is located in the City of Lethbridge. In addition, a satellite Maintenance Shop has been set up in the Town of Vulcan. The division offers full public education services to approximately 8,1000 students from early childhood services through Grade 12. Palliser has 15 community schools, 17 Hutterian colony schools, 10 Christian alternative schools, nine of which are in Calgary on seven different campuses, four outreach programs, an online school, and two dedicated Low German Mennonite alternative programs. One of our outreach schools and a junior high in one of our community schools also serve the LGM community.
