About The Coronary Care Unit
The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Mount Sinai Hospital is a specialized six-bed unit dedicated to providing advanced cardiac care. We work closely with the heart function clinic, special pregnancy program, and oncology patients, offering comprehensive cardiology care and continuous cardiac monitoring for the hospital. Our unit primarily treats patients with congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, and cardiomyopathies, particularly in pregnant populations. The CCU's collaborative environment and state-of-the-art technology enable us to deliver personalized, high-quality care to every patient.
In This Role You Will
Provide comprehensive cardiology care and continuous cardiac monitoring for patients Collaborate closely with the heart function clinic, special pregnancy program, and oncology teams Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with conditions such as congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, and cardiomyopathies Administer and manage cardiac medications, including antiarrhythmics, inotropes, and anticoagulants Educate patients and their families about cardiac conditions and care plans Utilize advanced cardiac monitoring technology, including pulmonary arterial lines and telemetry Participate in emergency response and provide critical interventions Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Job Requirements
Mandatory
Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Current/recent 1 - 2 years Adult Medical/Surgical experience Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Critical Care Certification or equivalent certification
Preferred
A baccalaureate degree from a CNO-approved nursing program 1-2 years of Critical Care experience Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Skills and Knowledge
Advanced assessment and documentation Arrhythmia interpretations Defibrillation PA line assessment and management Temporary pacemakers Hemodynamic monitoring High alert drug administration 12 lead ECG interpretation Set-up and assistance in bedside procedures e.g. cardiac line insertions, etc. Complex cardiac patient care e.g. patients requiring inotropes such as dobutamine, milrinone, etc. Monitoring telemetry and caring for patients who require or have received thrombolytic therapy Monitoring and transporting cardiac patients for inter-facility transfers; pre and post cardiac procedures Providing patient education re: cardiac medications, pre/post procedure expectations, etc.
