About Dominion Dynamics
Dominion Dynamics is building Canada’s next-generation defense prime; a sovereign technology company delivering AI-powered command and control infrastructure for Arctic sovereignty and autonomous multi-domain operations.
Our flagship program, JADC2-as-a-Service (JADC2aaS), is a persistent dual-use sensing and decision-making network designed for the Canadian Arctic. We integrate land, maritime, aerial, and space-based ISR with resilient communications and edge AI to build a sovereign data fabric across the North benefiting both national defense and isolated communities.
Our founding team includes former operators from Anduril, Google, Amazon, and the Canadian Armed Forces. We’re building hard tech in hard places, and looking for software engineers who thrive in that environment.
The Role: Embedded Systems Engineer
As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you’ll join our early engineering cohort focused on integrating cutting-edge hardware platforms with secure, resilient software systems in extreme field environments.
Your work will enable real-time interoperability between uncrewed systems, edge nodes, sensors, and command interfaces; ensuring that our JADC2aaS platform functions seamlessly from field node to operations center.
You’ll play a critical role in ensuring that distributed software and hardware elements talk to each other, work reliably in the Arctic, and meet both defense and civilian dual-use demands. You will be on the ground level on an agile team of engineers that would be tasked with developing POCs and iterating them from field deployments through to market-hardened solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and build integration layers across hardware, sensors, and communication systems
- Implement and manage messaging and control protocols using DDS and JAUS standards
- Develop and maintain plug-ins and interface modules for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit)
- Integrate robotic and sensing platforms using ROS 2 and sensor fusion middleware
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams to ensure seamless operation between software stack and field-deployed platforms
- Design and maintain telemetry, control, and visualization interfaces for forward-deployed operators
- Develop test harnesses, simulators, and diagnostics tools for real-world and lab environments
- Participate in field deployments and systems validation in Arctic or remote test sites
Technical Environment
Integration Platforms:
- TAK including Android, Windows, and emerging awareness platforms
- JAUS (Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems) *or similar
- DDS (Data Distribution Service) *or similar
- ROS 2 (Robot Operating System for sensor fusion and autonomy) *or similar
Languages & Tools:
- Python, C++, JavaScript
- GCP, GitHub, OpenCV
- Sensor fusion stacks, serial communication, CANbus
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of systems integration experience in robotics, defense, or industrial automation
- Strong understanding of robotics interfaces, real-time messaging, and embedded software stacks
- Experience working with or deploying ATAK, DDS, JAUS, or ROS 2 in real-world scenarios
- Strong troubleshooting, simulation, and field-debugging skills across hardware/software boundaries
- Comfort in high-ambiguity environments with startup-level velocity and scope
- Mission-aligned: motivated to build sovereign capabilities and next-gen national infrastructure
Why Join Dominion
We’re not just building software, we’re building a sovereign national capability. This role offers the opportunity to:
- Enable the real-world functionality of Canada's Arctic ISR and autonomy stack
- Shape technical integration culture and tools from the earliest stages
- Earn meaningful equity as part of a founding engineering cohort
- Operate at the intersection of hardware, robotics, and national resilience
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary + % equity
- Field deployment opportunities (Canada North, test sites, operational demos)
- Flexible hybrid work (Ottawa or Toronto preferred)
