About the role

Paterson Grain is currently seeking a hardworking professional to fill the role of Fertilizer Product Manager. The fertilizer product manager is a member of the divisional leadership team with specific responsibility for the results of the retail fertilizer business. The position leads the sales, marketing, supply chain and transportation efforts of the fertilizer product line. The product manager is a leader for the country location teams, is supported by product coordinators and works closely with the wholesale and trucking divisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Price discovery and pricing for bulk products
  • Coaching sales staff
  • Product portfolio design and communication of market and product information
  • Guide customer-based marketing approach
  • Effectively communicate commodity market updates and product knowledge
  • Lead demand forecasting, inventory planning, risk management, and logistical execution
  • Combine input from local teams with market conditions and assemble product movement forecasts
  • Develop positioning plans for bulk commodities that align market exposure strategies with operational needs to achieve profitability goals while managing risk and ensuring supply availability
  • Leads logistical execution including truck and retail transport from warehouses to retail facilities and customers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Business or Economics.
  • Experience in the agriculture industry is preferred and familiarity with commodity markets, fertilizer and farming practices are an asset.
  • Sales coaching is a key aspect of the job, interpersonal skills and desire to work with people are essential.
  • Ability to coach and develop in the areas of sales, sales process and negotiations
  • Quantitative acumen, comfort with numbers, organizational skills, attention to detail and experience with business software are essential.
  • Experience with and ability to manage inventory positions, pricing and margins, budgets, financial statements and supply chain schedules.
