Reporting to the Vice President Corporate Communications, this Director will be the lead communications business partner to the HR team, delivering on strategies that effectively elevate OMERS talent brand in a competitive global and regional environment as well as keeping current employees informed of core HR program offerings and key milestones of the OMERS People Strategy.
With a dual internal and external focus, the incumbent will develop and execute strategies and deliverables to build market profile that attracts top-tier talent globally. This position will make a significant impact by fostering pride and engagement among current employees, while also supporting the recruitment of new team members.
This is a strategic and hands-on position for an individual who wants to be a part of a purpose-driven organization, working to serve 640,000 Plan members in Ontario.
This role will work collaboratively with HR partners and colleagues on the Global Communications team as well as with appropriate Business and Functional Leaders globally to establish short- and longer-term strategies and deliverables backed by appropriate success metrics and data-driven insights.
The incumbent will work both independently and as a project lead in creating talent-related creative communications campaigns, awards submissions, and products that help distinguish OMERS, showcase its talent-related differentiators with the overall goal of driving audience engagement across multiple channels and formats (e.g. in-person, event, traditional media, social media, podcasts, in-person, and video). There is currently one direct report to this role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Clear, integrated and creative strategies that connect people, process and purpose.
Developing story ideas that provide thoughtful, engaging and interesting ways to convey our core narratives, award-winning culture, and the elements that have made us an employer of choice.
Continuous learning – engage in and learn the ever-expanding world of talent-related communications, participate in industry conferences, events, peer meetings and other learning opportunities as appropriate to bring best-in-class and current knowledge to the table to help shape our initiatives and branding efforts.
Participate collaboratively as a team member in supporting colleagues’ skills development within a continuous improvement framework.
Establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with a diverse stakeholder group.
To succeed in this role you have:
Specific communications experience with audience engagement, communications planning, as well as clear and effective writing.
Experience working with HR content and colleagues.
A minimum of 8–10 years of professional experience in leading effective communications or brand strategies is required; experience in HR communications is essential, and financial services experience is an asset.
Previous experience and expertise working with C-level executives including partnering with them on the development of strategic communications materials and executive voice.
Leadership, coaching and management skills gained through experience in managing teams as well as complex projects.
The ability to conceptualize and articulate the importance of communications in achieving business goals, and to work in partnership with key business areas to deliver on both broader OMERS and their individual business objectives.
A track record of establishing and maintaining high-trust, effective working relationships, with sound judgement and the ability to influence and partner confidently with senior leaders.
The ability to establish effective strategies and metrics to measure success and extract appropriate learnings to continuously advance communications strategies.
