Salary Range: $44.95 - $52.87 /hour

St. Joseph's Hospital continues to develop its role in the treatment of complex medical and chronic disease, illness prevention, research and education. Our ambulatory medicine teams specialize in the treatment of complex medical and chronic disease conditions with the goal of assisting individuals to reach optimal health and well-being. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention Program team members work together to enable and assist patients with self-management with respect to initiating and sustaining healthy behaviour change. Important self-management outcomes include cardiac rehabilitation and recovery, and reduction of secondary risk. The program includes medical management, exercise program, and access to a dietitian and social worker.

The Kinesiologist in the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention Program is responsible for implementing and coordinating individualized patient care plans through healthy lifestyle change and exercise prescription encouraging patients in maintaining and optimizing function and self-management through exercise, training and consultation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology Sciences, Exercise Sciences, or in a related health science
  • Valid registration with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario
  • Basic cardiac life support (BCLS)
  • 2 years recent experience providing exercise prescription and supervised training and consultation to patients with chronic disease, upper extremity rehabilitation and/or reduced mobility secondary to neurological impairment or aging
  • Formal training in fitness, training in adapted fitness preferred i.e. CAN-FIT-PRO
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated advanced competencies in interpersonal relations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and comfort with teaching experiential learners
  • Demonstrated knowledge of impairments of individuals with physical disability and implications for fitness programming
  • Demonstrated understanding of program specific disease/conditions such as: cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, neurological impairments, upper extremity rehabilitation, geriatric conditions and aging processes
  • Demonstrated competency in computer-based office technologies such as word processing programs, spreadsheets, presentation programs, data entry, and virtual care delivery programs
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation or Cardiac Rehabilitation Network of Ontario

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
