Tourmaline Oil Corp. is a Canadian senior crude oil and natural gas exploration and production
company. We are focused on long-term growth through an active exploration, development,
production, and acquisition program in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
PRIMARY FOCUS
The Automation Technicians will be expected to support the E/I Maintenance division, Operational
Technology Team, and Production Operations activities for the Deep Basin area, while maintaining
an environmentally safe and cost-effective work environment. Specifically, you will interact daily
with field staff to facilitate the production of oil, gas facilities and associated wells. Supporting the
E/I division, Production Operations, and OT Team in a field-based role, the Automation Technician
duties include field repairs, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on PLCs, SCADA,
communication devices, and programming of various applications. These duties may include
smaller project supervision, project quotation and advanced troubleshooting, equipment ordering,
and new well/facility commissioning, etc.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installation, configuration, commissioning, testing, repair, and maintenance of industrial
automation equipment, communications devices, sensors, and applications including, but
not limited to RTUs, radios, modems, PLCs, SCADA software, and HMI software.
- Maintain continuity among work teams, E/I Maintenance, Operations, and Automation by
documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Ability to recognize non-routine situations, adapt accordingly and troubleshoot/identify
solutions for remediation.
- Read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and
sequences of assembly.
- Advanced troubleshooting where follow up visits are required (New facilities working
through start-up bugs)
- Compressor, facility, wells, and plant automation troubleshooting to optimize, correct
deficiencies, resolve operational problems.
- Attend meetings and learning workshops as requested.
- Provide a partnership with the Operational Technology Team.
- Support the E/I Maintenance division as required.
- Support the Production Operations Team as required.
- Provide Holiday coverage in other Tourmaline CGUs.
- Provide onsite technical support for new production startups. (Wells, Facilities)
- Project quotes for field-initiated projects.
- Candidate must be local or looking to relocate and flexible to work varying shifts as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Technology Diploma or Journeyman Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years of automation/programming experience in a maintenance role.
- Has a broad knowledge of resources and uses this knowledge to build operations and
maintenance plans.
- Experienced in PLC automation, RTUs, SCADA commissioning, serial and ethernet
communications for automation/SCADA, along with common industrial communications
protocols.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
FAMILIARITY WITH AND UNDERSTANDING OF
- Working knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Must be able to take initiative, work independently as well as in a team.
- Demonstrates a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to explain
complicated procedures well and convey information clearly through written
communication.
- Understand link between goals and planning tasks, communicates objectives, and goals
effectively.
- Successfully uses time management tools (i.e. planners, computers);
- Able to analyze data, make appropriate recommendations and communicate analysis
results clearly to others.
- Demonstrates a commitment to Safety & Environmental principles and understanding of
tools.
- Skilled with required software (MS Excel, MS Word , MS Outlook, Dakota, AccuMap,
Prodview, Zedi and Xpoc).

Physical work may be required such as lifting, ladder climbing, working at heights.
